I just found out I was pregnant yesterday and according to how you calculate pregnancy time I'm at about 5 weeks. Since yesterday I've been noticing these sharp pains in my lower right abdomen (right near the hip bone). They aren't severe or anything but they are persistent and sometimes they take me by surprise and I have to take a breath. They rarely happen when I'm laying down - mostly when I'm moving. I'm really worried it could be an ectopic pregnancy or something like that. Is it too early for round ligament pain? I've never been pregnant before so I'm really worried :(

Also, my OBGYN said they wouldn't see me until 8 weeks. I have an appointment with my regular doctor tomorrow, but I'm not sure if they can check this kind of stuff?

nope, this is most likely round ligament.

the ligaments that hold your uterus are beginning to stretch, and they are on either side of your abdomen (some people only feel it on one side). it can be very painful, especially during movement.

i felt mine early too, and felt them when i got up too fast, was jumping out of my tall SUV, or was running or jogging.

i don't think you have anything to worry about.

@sillyme: Thanks Silly! Of course I'm going to worry about everything now - just hoping everything's normal :)

I had the same problem for several weeks.  Your body is already stretching and making room for things to start shifting.  Unless you have bleeding or pain that last consistantly for a couple of hours I would just do your best to breath through it and try not to worry.

Mine went away about the same time morning sickness (or really, all day sickness) kicked in :)  Wishing you a healthy and strong pregnancy!

@sillyme: I felt mine early, too.

    No worries.

But if pain rates 7/10 or more--go to the ER.
