shawls for bridesmaids - color help, please!

posted 1 year ago in Beehive

My wedding is this November, and I decided (last night) that I want to add a shawl to the bridesmaid gifts.  My MOH is always cold, and I know she had mentioned wanting a wrap of sorts.

I can't afford the real pashminas, but I found rayon substitutes that will work for one night.  Even though they're not going to be of super quality, I want them to be a color that can be re-used.

So here's my question:  The girls' dresses are a deep burgundy (long, halter top).  I'm afraid to try to match reds, and although pale pink is my accent color, I'm afraid pink shawls would be a bit matchy-matchy.  That leaves me with options like black, ivory, or white.  (my dress is white)  Which color do you think would both look best and be the most practical to use again??

*I'm also thinking of getting one for myself in either white or pink - opinions on that would be helpful as well!*

Thanks!

How about black shawls for them?  They say everyone needs a little black dress, so it'd make sense to have a little black wrap to match! :-)  I love the idea of you having a pink one, too....a little pop of color, sort of like the blue shoes trend!

putting them in white and yours in pink might be cute and be a nice contrast...

I think that getting them white & you pink would be cute.

Maybe because I am thinking about doing the same thing for my bridesmaids. Where did you find these shawls?

What about a taupe shade?  That might look nice.  Personally I wouldn't go with black.  Maybe it's just my personal style but if I were to go out in a black dress I would not pair it with a black shawl, that would be too all-over-black.  I'd want a contrasting colour shawl.

Thanks for the input, girls!  Again, these aren't real pashmina shawls, but I'm going for cheap and warm rather than luxury! hehe (aka I already got a gift for the girls, I just don't want them to freeze!)

If you're looking for true pashminas, or pashmina blends, typing in pashmina at google.com will provide plenty of good results.

i think you can get them the ivory and then get the pink one for yourself.

My vote is for Black, chances are they won't wear them in photos and you know when a maid gets cold in a wedding what does she grab - a groomsmen's jacket.....

Plus it will match with everything they own for the most part.

I love the idea of the pink, but if you don't like it, I think I'd go with ivory. Black would look nice, but I'm thinking of doing something similar for my maids, and I realized that a lot of people already have their own black wraps!

What about chocolate brown or a golden hue?

I think black would be most reusable, but depending on the mood, if you want to lighten the look, I'd choose ivory.

Although you might not be able to afford a high end silk-cashmere blend pashmina for everyone, if you can get something that is at least a wool blend and not all rayon, it will be warmer.  even among pashminas that are labelled real, there are grades of quality, so you might still be able to find something affordable in real wool if you have access to a china town type of shopping area.

Just wanted to throw out there that I got these for my BMs and was reaally pleased with the quality. My girls dresses are a deep teal.

Click!

They did take 2-3 weeks to come from Hong Kong, but the price is good.

So maybe you could go with a pattern - then you could pull in one of your other colors?
