YES! I am engaged to the love of my life!!!!
So we are totally giddy right now, but here is the story.
As so many of you know, I planned to propose on Leap Day. I baked all day and made cupcakes that were yellow and blue (see 30 Rock for Leap Dave Williams Story) and spelled out my proposal in scrabble inspired cookies.
I wore a blue dress with a blue flower in my hair, and wore a yellow lay with yellow earings and waited. Wow is it nerve racking to propose! Props to all the men out there who do this!
So he came home and was very confused, since I was supposed to be at work (but I called in sick). And I said “Happy Leap Day” and blew bubbles at him as he came in. He said he wanted to celebrate the day last week so he was very excited.
I sat down with him on the couch (Which is Blue, hehe) and told him how much I love him and want him to be my parter in life and continue to love life and laugh our way through it. I then said, “I know this isn’t traditional, but then you told me I wasn’t traditional two years ago. So I have to ask, Will you marry me?” and stood up and lifted the cover off of the cupcakes I made and waited. He said yes right away and was blown away by the effort I put into everything. He was just so stunned and then he saw the ring. He said he loved it and that it was exactly what he would have wanted for a wedding band, and would be honoured to wear it while engaged. It is too big because I guessed his size, but that is an easy fix, so I will get it sized for him. Yay I am just over the moon right now!
So after I proposed, he ran upstairs to get the ring…. he has had it for months! I knew it! Anyway, he said that he couldn’t dream of being with anyone else, and that he loves me and wanted to make it special. That this is the perfect time and in our house is the perfect place because it was our home that we built together. Then he got down on one knee and proposed right BACK! AAAHHHH I started balling! My ring is soooo perfect and I love him for proposing right back. it was perfect and exactly as I wanted. I am on cloud nine!
He is supposed to dj tonight on local radio but is now too frazzled to function properly so he is arranging a tape to play instead so he can stay home with me. He said he didn’t know about the Leap Day tradition of proposing but that he loved it and feels so loved. Turns out he was planning to do it this weekend but I was working all weekend and wasn’t sure when it would be possible to do it.
Here are some pics of the cupcakes and our rings. Thanks Bees for the support! It was really scary to do.
