That is really bad... I do have to say though that just because it was 50k doesn't mean it looks nice, or looks nice on her :p Even if it did, I think she'd get the evil eye from most people for pulling a nasty stunt like that.

I have a lot more empathy for an excited bride to spend lots of $$$ on a dress, but a jealous mother in law!

I have no idea, but he was DEAD serious about it being 50K. I still am having issues believing it...it sounds crazy!
Hopefully that couple is prepared with security guards. If they wrestled the dress away, there's no telling what else she may have in mind.

I now fear my MIL will do something like this....she so would! Its not like were on bad terms or anything, this is just something she WOULD do...thiss woman has money, and LOVVES to spend it - I can only imagine her dress will be at least $10k (with her style, will probably be horrendous too....yes you can totally get awful things at that price) but she would do it!

I say it's an urban legend. There is no way! He's just screwing with you or it's one of those things that has traveled down the line and gotten bigger and more expensive as it goes. It's really probably a black dress that cost $500. LOL.
It's not unheard of if its couture. That said, if she was wearing couture and attending shows, their crowd probably wouldn't be as shocked as you say they are by the price. I call shenanigans.
OMG, If someone wore a white dress to my wedding, I don't care how much it costs, I would so go APE! They better hold her back or it could get ugly.
haha, no joke. I think the white part is what irritates me more than the cost. Well, assuming it's my ex boss and i've seen his wife, I can kind of assume that they have "fancy friends" so I wouldn't necessarily be surprised if she busted out some kind of crazy expensive dress. i can't imagine a FMIL hating me that much...no matter how rich! Yikes
LOL...that is funny stuff. I can just picture the dress in my head and I'm thinking how crazy it must look like. Fun times with the MIL.

Yep, you heard me right! My ex-boss was telling me how a bunch of his friends are getting married. They're all in their 40's or so. He told me one of his closest friends' MOTHER bought a $50,000 DRESS to upstage the girl he was marrying b/c she didn't like her.
A new blingy ring would have been cheaper! haha
Apparently they have managed to wrestle the dress away because everybody is telling her how inappropriate it is.
Yes, I clarified he said 50K, not 15K. Who even makes a 50K dress???
