@Artificial-Sweetener:  I wouldn’t worry about it, it’s not like it’s your sibling. DH and I had al our kids’ names picked out before we got married too. Now that we are pregnant only one was a contender still-and only because it was a family name. You’ll probably chnage your mind when you actually have kids and if not, you can still use the name.

I wanted to name my son after my Irish side. My Mom told me at the time that “my brother has that name on hold.”

11 years later, my brother does not have kids. Ugh. Makes me laugh know, but boy did it piss me off at the time.

Was it a just fluke that she had those names picked out?

@Artificial-Sweetener:  No one owns a name you are not even pregnant yet.  I think you are way over reacting.

How dare she.  Everyone knows it’s proper etiquette to ask every single person on their Facebook friends list what their potential future baby names are to make sure they don’t accidently name their real kid the same thing someone else might maybe name the kid they may or may not have eventually.

@Sassygrn:  +1.

“Stealing” a name would make more sense if you were friends/family with the girl and you told her what you were naming your child, then they have a baby first and name it that.

Having a facebook random name their child a name you want, but won’t use for several years is not “stealing”.

Lol. I knew Bee’s would take this in the wrong way and over-react. Dear lord!

Anyways! A close friend of mine named her new dog after my precious baby dog.. She hears me talk about him only a million times and has seen a million photos of him. I knooooow she got the name from him. I wouldn’t call it a common name for dogs either, it’s Theo. Made me so mad! When she announced the name on FB with its picture, my sassy self left a comment, “Hmm… now where have I heard that name before… 😉 ” Hehe!

Haha I always feel kinda bummed when someone names their kid a name that I was fantasizing giving to my future child! But hey, whatever. I have a pretty unique name and growing up I never knew anyone with the same name, but when I got older I started running into a few people with it and it’s not too bad. My poor sister though, she’s a year younger than our cousin who has the same name, and now there’s FI’s sister with the same name!

@Jabberwocky:  Lol that is gold!!!

My sister had a name picked out for about 10 years and when she finally gave birth she took one look at the bub and gave her a completely different name.  If you only went to school with the girl who stole your name and you have nothing to do with her it doesnt really matter.

It isn’t really that big of a deal… when I was born there were 3 other girls born the same year with my first name as well. I ended up going through school with all of the girls, worked with a couple, and even went into college with one…

I remember my mother telling me she was a little ticked at first when someone decided at the last minute to name her kid Jessica just weeks before I was born, it made her doubt my name entirely but I am glad she went with her gut feeling on the name.
