My cat went Meet The Parents psycho and decided to tear up part of my veil. I’m altering my mom’s cathedral veil to use for my wedding. I had it all together ready to attach to the clip and not thinking left it on my dining room table to do other things and when I came back to it my cat had completely shredded the top layer. I have no one to blame but myself for leaving it out but I was pissed nonetheless. My concern is, there are appliques that were on the original veil that I really wanted on mine, so I specifically used that portion of my mom’s veil to create my own. The bottom layer of the veil is still in tact and has one applique at the bottom center.. should i see if I can remove the appliques from the layer my cat tore up and reapply them to the layer that’s untouched? or does it look fine as is? ..also, will it look weird to just have a one layer veil? :-/ ..pics below
sorry pics are sideways.. can’t figure out how to turn them the right way..

Oh no! 🙁 I don’t have any advice as I am not veil savvy at all but wanted to share my sympathies. Darn animals!

I would argue that your cat did not go psycho, but merely saw that you had left her an amazing present…! That’s normal cat behavior.
It sucks, though. How hard would it be to remove the appliques from the shredded part? If you could do it and have it look nice, I’d add those to a new piece of tulle/whatever veil material is actually called.

@Quicksand: Bloody cats!!! This is why I like dogs. But dogs probably would just eat the whole thing. Is there anyway you can find the same mesh and try to recreate the top layer again? Then you can put the appliques from the ruined original top onto the new top.

I can’t really see the shredding in the photo. If it isn’t really noticable from more than a couple feet away, I’d probably just leave it as is. If it is noticable, you can absolutely remove the appliques and reattach to the under layer. A single layer would be perfectly fine.

@JenGirl: the photos are of the non-shredded portion.. it’s pretty bad, definitely noticable lol
@peachacid: haha you’re right, I left her an amazing present and she decided to leave me an even better one! 😉
Thanks ladies, I’ll see if there’s enough material from my mom’s veil to recreate another top layer and reapply the appliques to that. If I can’t recreate it though I’ll just have to use the single layer veil and attach the appliques to that. The veil has tiny pearl beads throughout the veil so I wouldn’t really be able to buy a new piece of tulle anywhere without it looking different from the bottom piece.
