I have less than 4 weeks til my wedding, about 5 days ago I has some tenderness on the back of my arm and my right breast. The next day I had some bump in front of my arm pit. Went to the doctor who said it was dermatitis. He gave me an antibiotic. I was sick for 3 weeks before this and very stressed about the wedding. I had a feeling it was shingles. The next day it had spread and it was becoming painful. Doctor gave me steroids and was not convinced (obviously I was not). Sure enough the next day the bumps connected and formed blisters. I have shingles. I'm 25 with shingles and my wedding is weeks away. I'm now on an an antiviral medicine every four hours that I'm awake. Can't go to the gym to lose the last few pounds, can't cuddle with my future husband, can't go to my second job (which is stressful) to earn those extra few dollars. How do I relax? I'm taking pills every hour!!! I hate medicine, but I hate the intense pain I'm feeling. What do I do with myself now? Ahhhh help me!!!

Lysine helps to suppress the virus. Try 500 mg. per day.

AHHH I sooo feel for you!!! I was diagnosed with mono hilarious because I'm in my mid-twenties never did I think to get that. I've been on bed rest for almost a month and tomorrow I have my law school admissions exam. Try ibuprofen luckily i had some in the house prescribed like 600mg and that took away all the pain I had.

FI had shingles once, it went away pretty quickly once he got the anti-viral. he caught it really early though. check with your doctor, his doctor said shingles doesn't spread amongst adults like chicken pox do. FI continued to go to work and we didn't have any less contact when he had it. but i know he had a mild case so maybe it is different. feel better!

@pb and j:I think that might have to do with how early you catch it and how severe it is. DH's friend and co-worker got shingles right before out wedding and she was quarantined for 5 weeks. She caught it pretty early but it was a really severe case, from what I understand.

OP, I don't know what to say! Big hugs and I hope you get better soon.

Well, I found out tea tree oil helps get rid of the rash a lot faster. I started it yesterday. I woke up this morning and saw progress! I'm still in pain but I can deal. The rash is slowly going away but I know I will be okay before the wedding. Thank you guys for the support. So if anyone else does a search for shingles, here's my advice. Get the antiviral medicine just in case because doctors misdiagnose it in young people ALL the time and assume it's dermatitis. Mine wouldn't have gotten this bad if I would've started it right away. Start taking some vitamin C pills to help get your immune system back on track. Get sleep!!! As much as you can! Stop worrying about the wedding for a week, lay back and sleep. Take some benadryl to help you sleep if you can't. Take the antiviral medicine every 4 hours (wake up to take it as well cause I think it helps) and finally, get tea tree oil from CVS and some cotton pads. Put it on 3-4 times a day (oh and it smells horrible, do it outside if you can). Hope this will help someone else like it helped me. Thanks guys!!!

That sucks! I had shingles about four months before my wedding. Take the drugs and just do what you can! Thank God so close to your wedding you don't have it on your face. I had to figure out how to cover up the scar in the middle of my forehead.

    Hope you feel better soon!

All I can suggest is be as stress free as possible (not easy when your wedding's just around the corner, huh?). My 15 year old sister gets them every time she gets overly stressed about school. Feel better!

@typheni:I'm so sorry this is happening to you!!  I am 25 and I have had shingles TWICE!  It is always brought on by stress.  The most important thing you can do right now is REST, relax, relish in the fact that you're marrying your sweetheart soon!  Can you doc give you pain patches?  That's what mine did.  If not, mixing antivirals and advil won't hurt.  Just load up on pain pills.  I'll cross my fingers that they go away for you!  I find with the meds, they fade in a matter of days.

Thank you girls so much for all the well wishes, they are going away! Unfortunately the pain is not. I can deal with the pain, I just want the horrible rash to disappear. I will post some pictures of how it went from the worst to doing okay.
