Hi Everyone! I have a question about a great problem to have. My grandmother told me she was planning to give me her china set from when she got married. It’s beautiful, and I’m so excited to be able to have and use it. Problem is, she lives in State #1. I currently live in State #2, which is more than 1200 miles away. To make matters worse, after the wedding, I will be living with FI in state #3, a further 600 miles away.
What is the best way to get the china from state #1 to state #3? Should I pay someone to pack it and send it to the mail? Use a specialty shipping service? Just pack it super well myself?
Any advice and cost estimates would be hugely appreciated!

as long as she has it packed properly, shipping shouldn’t be an issue. UPS sells boxes for dishes (http://www.uhaul.com/MovingSupplies/Protective-stuff/Dish-Saver-Kit?id=2577) i inherited my nana’s china a few years ago, and that’s how it got to me- packed really well in one of those boxes, and shipped overnight with strict instructions that it was fragile.

my mom just shipped me my grandparent’s china–she had ups pack it, ship it, and insured it for a ton. It was $450 for all of it (I think it ended being 3 or 4 boxes). Based upon other things I’ve had ups pack, the packing is usually half, the shipping the other half. They double box everything for safety.
