That first dress is gorgeous!!! I'd say pair it with the leopard shoes if you want to be sexy, though it might be a little over the top depending on what other people wear at this party. Or maybe some red pumps would fit the holiday theme!
Leopard print if you are going with a block coloured dress, or a block colour shoe if you are going with a print dress!
I think that lots of the girls at this party dress like they're about to go clubbing.... sigh, not my scene at all.
If I went with the print dress (I bought both anyway....oops), do you think the colour of the honey shoes works? Hmmmmmn decisions, decisions.
@so_said_ellie: Can I just say that I love both dresses and I would wear either of them to a Christmas party. You could definetely wear the honey coloured shoes with the print dress IMO and the leopard ones work great with the purple (black). I think the leopard shoes would really add a kick to the purple (black) dress and all you would have to do is add some accessories and you're done! Love both and would wear both combinations you suggested :)
I would wear the black dress to the party-- I'm having a similar problem where I love my printed/fun outfits, but my SO's work party is too fancy. Save the horsies for a date!
And I definitely vote leopard print-- especially since you mentioned that the other girls dress like they are clubbing. You are going to be so sassy and cute!
I like both outfits- but the black with leopard shoes i think speaks more confidence, and more dressy for a party ( specially if they are into the club scene) ..and then you can have your SO take you out to dinner and wear the horse with the honey :)
@cherrycoke: both dresses are from (the sale section of!) www.asos.com which I love because it has free shipping to Australia!
Maybe I should just buy both the shoes... sigh.. hahaha, my credit card bill this month is dire!
I'm leaning toward black dress with leopard. Fake it til you make it, and all that...
I say first dress with honey shoes. If this is your first time going to your SO's work party you don't want anything over the top. Go simple and classic. First impressions are important and whether we believe it or not SO of employees are important with first impressions.
Trust me, we have a wife of a co-worker who ALWAYS comes to office parties over the top and loud and you don't want the reputation of being "that SO".
Also are you planning on wearing tights underneath the dress?
ETA: But I do like the leopard shoes more! If you go honey you can go with fun tights if you go leopard go with simple tights. BTW how is the quality of ASOS? They have so much cute stuff and shipping is only $6 to the States.
Ohhh I just read your post that the other girls dress like they go clubbing. In that case go leopard. hehe.
When you say you are 3x the size of the model i'm just concerned the first dress might emphasize waist because of were the middle sits and the way the skirt poofs.
I am sure you are beautiful but if you are a little uncomfortable with your size I recommend you finding a short baby doll dress like those in an "A" line. just below the breasts. It is very flattering. and get it in a material that pulls straight down. no flare or poofy.
I do like the 2nd choice. I think it's very trendy looking and would look great with the honey shoes. some black tights to enlongate the legs and add to the slimmer side with a big gold braclet. : )
I am so opinionated I know!!!! I love fashion and modeled 100 years ago!!
Good luck, go flaunt your stuff and your man!!!
Everything is so cute, you have great taste!
I also voted for the purple (black) dress and leopard shoes - maybe with some black tights and cute jewelry?
But you also can't go wrong with the printed dress too. I think whatever you choose to wear, it will look great!
@tir: I ordered both dresses in uk/au size 12, which equates to US 10 (I think). The model is wearing the uk size 8 and is 2.5 inches taller than me. I'm in total agreement that the waist may poof out, especially because my torso is fairly straight-up-down, but it's so hard to tell until I try the dress on. I have my fingers crossed though..
@ gerbera: He works for an airline, so the people at the party will be pilots and flight attendants. As a group, lots of them go out partying etc and socialise together a lot. I've met a couple of them, but not many, and usually when I'm flying as a passenger. Flight attendants intimidate me because they have very shiny hair and can wear heels in turbulence... Hahah
Wasn't planning on tights because we are gearing up for the Sydney summer, and relatively short skirts are the norm. Thank god for spray tan, it's that time of year!
And to answer your question about asos quality, I've found it to be pretty good. I've ordered stuff that's the 'asos' brand and been pleasantly surprised. They sell some high-end designer gear too, but I am cheap so I stick to the other end of the scale :) I ordered some things from urban outfitters earlier this year, and the quality was pretty bad. I've been much happier with asos so far.
@so_said_ellie: size 10!! That is a perfect size!!! I change my mind!! purple dress, leopard shoes & still say chunky gold braclet. you will look amazing!!
3x bigger than model... ugh!! lol
I think the black dress and honey colored shoes are approriate for a work party.
So, a little update: I went to the shoe store yesterday, and they didn't have either of the shoes in my size (damn my size 10 feet). Anyway... I decided that I'm going to buy both of them, but I'll probably wear the leopard ones to the party and the honey ones to my own (more staid, hospital dept.) work party.
And I bought a pair of purple Birkenstocks on endless as well. I think there's something wrong with me. Need to stop internet shopping. Eeeesh.

Sooo... I will be going to SO's work Xmas party next month. Last year we didn't go because he had to work the next day, year before that we didn't go because I ..ahem.. may have had an anxiety attack and total meltdown the day of.
This year, I'm determined to go and I'm determined not to feel uncomfortable surrounded by flight attendants!!
So here are my choices (leaving aside the most obvious problem, which is that I am about 3x the size of the model): dress one, which I actually ordered in black, is probably going to be what I wear. I love the dress with the little horses, but my work friend says that it's too "day" and not work-party enough.
Shoes-wise, should I go a little bit dirty with the leopard, or a little bit different with the big heeled-honey. I have loved the honey-coloured shoes for a loooooong time, but have never had a reason to buy them
Or should I just give up and go back to the drawing board?? Advice?
