As an American, I kind of always think we have a monopoly on these kinds of things- not in a good way of course.  I’m really sorry for the hurt your country will experience from this.

I’m in Ottawa… just recently moved away from the downtown core, thank goodness. I was only a couple of blocks from the war memorial and Parliament.

I really can’t believe this is happening right now. Especially after the incident in Quebec the other day…

Our military is clearly being targeted, and it’s terrifying. This kind of thing just doesn’t happen here in my sleepy little town.

Everyone I know is safe and sound, but shaken up. I’m just hoping they cancel the Ottawa Senators/Toronto Maple Leafs hockey game that’s in Ottawa tonight… 20,000 people in one room? Not a good idea.

I’m so sorry to hear this. Has anyone claimed responsibility yet?

A soldier guarding the war monument was shot. My eyes are glued to the TV right now. Its scary when something like this happens in your country.

eeniebeans:  I don’t necessarily think that’s true, I think that American news sources are very Americentric and don’t report often on things like this right away.

It helps contribute to this view that we have that we are the most important country on the planet.

AB Bride:  I just seen that the victim is reportedly still alive. Praying for him to pull through. I have just been skimming through the stories but I am definately in shock. I hate it when things like this happen.

AB Bride:  I think this is the only and first time that I am happy DH is in the States on buisness, otherwise I would be so much more stressed since he works downtown. I have a lot of friends and one of my sisters that are in lockdown downtown. The Globe and Mail has a first encounter video in Centre Block that is pretty freaky. Thoughts and prayers with everyone downtown.
