So, I found MY dress back in August while out dress shopping with my Mother-In-Law. I just loved it and decided to order it that day. It is really beautiful, but the photos of me in it don’t do it justice.
Unfortunately, I hadn’t been able to talk my mom into going dress shopping before that, so I felt awful that she hadn’t gotten to participate in the experience. So, I decided to have her to come to David’s Bridal with me (which I had already been to and tried on half the store), because I was sure I wouldn’t find anything I liked.
Fast forward to today. I finally was able to drag my very reluctant mother into coming out with me, and what do I find??? Two dresses at DB that I fell in love with! Crap. I so don’t have the money to be throwing away a deposit on my first dress and buying a whole new dress.
I need to go try on the original dress this weekend. Sooo confused now. How many of you has this happened to? Did you just suck it up and stick with the original dress?

@cleve_girl01: doh! you broke the cardinal rule! once you find your dress – just stop! lol but yeah, go and try on YOUR dress and see how you feel in it, but be sure you’re going in there with the right attitude and not ready to rip it apart. try it with a veil and jewelry and the whole deal – maybe it still it “the one”! also, you should try to only compare 2 at a time, so pick a favourite out of the 2 at DB before you go back so you’re not comparing it to a super-dress that has characteristics of both DB ones. Also, the mom aspect really might have made you more susceptible to liking another dress more. can she come with to see you in your dress?

I know, I know…I totally broke the rule! My mom has been sooo unsupportive up to this point, that I just found my dress and got it. But I felt awful about not involving her, and couldn’t cut her out of the whole experience, so I took her shopping. 🙁 The problem is, my IL’s are in Michigan and the wedding is in Michigan, so I went shopping up there first since I want to buy my dress up there. Mom is in Cleveland, and getting her to travel anywhere is like asking her to go to the moon, so the chances of getting her up there to see it are very slim.
The dress I bought is beautiful, unique and totally me…just doesn’t translate well in the photo since it was large on me and the lighting was terrible. The 2 DB dresses are totally different from each other and the original…one’s a simple lace sheath and the other is a beautiful ballgown with tiny ruffles all down the skirt. Although I love the ballgown, I’ve pretty much ruled that one out because I think I will roast in it at our August wedding. So I will be comparing the lace to my lovely ruched dress and see what happens.

@cleve_girl01: well without seeing the dresses, i think it still sounds like the dress you bought would be the one – you describe it as being totally you, so why wouldn’t it be! hopefully it’s just cold… wedding dress feet lol. are there any retailers in Cleveland that carry the dress you bought? maybe next time you visit her you can try it on with her there for like a “veil fitting/choosing” or something else to involve her opinion and she’d get to see you in it? either way, go with the dress you feel is more “you” and you feel great in!
