Our wedding is still over a year away, but my Mother wants to start looking for invitations soon.  She'll be visiting me in August and we're planning on looking for dresses then as well.  Is that too early?

Any recommendations on where to look in NYC?  A former co-worker had hers done at East Six, but I have a feeling they might be pricey.  I'm not looking to spend tons of money on invitations.

    Many thanks!

It might be too early if you don't have the "look" of your wedding figured out, otherwise, you might be fine. You won't be sending out invitations until June 2011, so I'm thinking it might be a little early. I am getting married in July 2011, and not starting the invitaton process until much later, probably October.

As for dresses, depends on if you want to lose weight... If you buy a dress and have to alter it too much, it can really ruin the look of the dress (seamstresses aren't magicians). I have talked to many people about this, and many people say that if you start too early, you may buy a dress and then regret it because you have so much time to still see dresses in magazines and online. I am planning on starting my dress process in the fall, with the plan of purchasing it in November or December. You could probably buy a dress in January/February and still have plenty of time. Not that you can't, but it is pretty early.

We used Village Invites, Jaye was beyond amazing.  Patient and creative with working in our budget.  Highly recommend!

Thank you both. I don't think I can convince my Mom not to go shopping at all, but I definitely won't be in a rush to buy anything just yet!

Village Invites looks nice as well, I will put it on my list!

Paper Presentation on 18th street is good since they stock a lot of product.  I ended up using Zazzle.com and love my invites, but not the plain white envelopes they came with, so went to Paper Presentation and baught some gorgeous royal purple ones.  With some gold ink they turned out great!
