I think cocktail-style is cute, especially if your wedding isn’t overly formal.

Absolutely not. Short dresses can even be used in formal weddings and look great.

The only time I’d say length disparity would be a problem is if your dress was tea length and you had floor length BM dress. That would look weird! πŸ™‚

I think you’ll be fine. I’ve heard that if the bride’s dress is long, then the bridesmaides dresses should be long too so that it looks good in photos and everything. But I don’t think it really matters. My dress is long and my bridesmaid’s dress is knee length.

My dress is long, my BMs are wearing knee length dresses.. I’ve seen many weddings like this and it looks fine in my OP, i actually think it helps the bride to stand out especially with simpler wedding dress.

I think the shorter bridesmaid dresses with your dress will look absolutely great! πŸ™‚

I don’t think it will clash at all.  My bridesmaids are wearing cocktail length dresses, and I have a full length lace gown with a train.  I’ve seen many many weddings with short dresses for the BMs and long dresses for the bride πŸ™‚

Not at all!  It’s wonderful that you’re considering cocktail length for your bridesmaids – they will really appreciate that!

I never even thought it mattered. πŸ™‚ I went to a Greek Orthodox wedding and they (the BMs) wore knee-length dresses. I’ve seen tons of other slightly less formal weddings as well. I think the style of the BM dresses and wedding dress need to “go” together, but length isn’t necessarily a big deal.

I hope they won’t clash, because that’s what I’m doing, too!  I’ve been to several weddings where they did short bridesmaid dresses and a long bridal gown, and I thought everyone looked great.

@bellagio: I had a huge train and a cathedral veil and my girls were in cocktail dresses (on the two taller girs they were pretty short…) and i thought it looked fine (I didnt hear anyone complain either…)

@bellagio: That’s a thought that never even crossed my mind… I had a pretty formal wedding dress with grey cocktail dresses.  We had a summer garden wedding on a 100 degree day… I never would have wished long dresses on my girls.

My dress is pretty formal and my girls will be wearing short dresses! The only consideration I had with it is when I picked such a formal dress, I decided that I should have their dresses be satin rather than chiffon like I had planned on, to make them match more with my dress.
