Oh I love those!

Honestly I think that short brides can pull off more styles than they think. There was a thread a few days ago where a bunch of short brides shared pictures of themselves in their dresses and they were all different styles – mermaids, trumpets, ballgowns.

Personally I have an A-line. I’m 4’10” and initially I thought I should probably only consider sheaths because I thought everything else might look silly. I only tried on one dress that looked absolutely absurd – a super poofy ballgown. I just couldn’t pull that one off lol.

I would just try on a bunch of different dresses and not limit yourself.

@Bunni0929:  I’m almost 5’3″ and mermaid dresses did not work on me because I don’t have much disparity between my hips and waist. I also have a short torso. I ended up going with a fit and flare dress. The A-line and trumpet style dresses looked okay on me.

@Bunni0929:  Yeah… I looked like a ridiculous marshmellow haha.

Your point about getting your dress shortened is something to really think about. I had 18 inches cut off of my dress, so if I had any special detailing around the bottom I would have lost it. I can see how having a lot cut off of a mermaid would mess with the design and proportions of the dress :-/

I am really short, under 5 foot. I just had my designer do what is called a “hollow to hem” where they make the dress with your body measurements taken into consideration. It wasn’t that much extra either! Now I have a beautiful train and I didn’t have to worry about chopping off the bottom of my dress.

 I’m really not sure if it is any bridal shop…especially if you are buying off rack. I went into the shop (it was actually a bridal outlet) and when they ordered the dress, I had that option. I got mine at Bridal Mart (I’m not sure where all they are located across the country) and my dress was from Impressions. However, from what I’ve heard it is pretty common. It wouldn’t hurt to call a couple bridal salons and ask if the designers they carry offer that option! 🙂 I hope that helps… sometimes finding clothes that fits when you are short is difficult!

Fellow short bride here, I’m 4″11.  If you don’t want to have to pay a lot to have the dress cut or shortened I highly recommend checking out Casablanca bridal gowns.  Casablanca is one of very few designers that include the hollow to hem in the initial dress cost.  Most designers,  having the dress hemmed will cost more at alterations. I fell in love with Casablanca 2032 and just recently ordered it.  I also suggest looking for dresses that can ne ordered in petite sizes.  I was worried about being short and finding a dress but found there were plenty of options.  Good luck!

5’1″ here too! I have a fit and flare. Haven’t had it altered yet but hoping for the best. There are some pics in my profile if you want to see.
