    Hi Weddingbees,

I have picked my dress and am working on my accessories. Only, the question is... is it too much together??

I love Justin Alexander's tea length dress, #8465 and would LOVE to wear blue shoes with it.

Also, I have picked out a birdcage veil with a little hat... it's similar to the picture I'm posting here except cuter :)  ...can you tell I'm digging on the 50's look ;) Then, I have some little sheer wrist length gloves and would like to also get a bolero to cover up my shoulders some. Either this one I'm posting here that I found on Etsy or a simple one made of either organza or silk...  The jewelry I am thinking of is very simple: a one stranded pearl and crystal necklace with some matching dangle earrings..

Does this sound like too much going on?

It's hard to tell in this picture, but this dress is supposed to be tea length...

Also, the shoes in this picture came out a little sea foam green looking with the lighting but it's supposed to be a Tiffany blue color...

I would definitely skip the gloves, and I would probably skip the bolero too. The dress is so beautiful that I wouldn't want to cover any of it up! And maybe it's just my computer, but those shoes look like a seafoam green color, not blue.

Whoops, yeah the shoes are leather and kinda change in different light. :( Here they look a little sea foamy green... they're supposed to be a Tiffany color blue. :)

The dress is beautiful and i don't think you should distract from it too much. To me the shoes are too heavy for the delicate dress-a bit frumpy. I would simplify the headpiece a little, wear earrings but not a necklace, and choose between the gloves and bolero. I would look for shoes more  like this:

I think it might be a little too overaccessorized.  I would say to skip the bolero and the gloves.

i think the bolero and gloves should go...or keep the gloves and simplify/eliminate the veil, if you are really digging the gloves. The bolero takes away from the BEAUTIFUL dress.

i like the first two shoe options cakegal chose

are you having a theme wedding?  it sounds like a costume to me.  Maybe you can tone it down for the ceremony and then add accessories for the reception?

Also I plan on doing a vintage dress and blue shoes... the dress has sleeves so no bolero... for pics I might wear some little shite gloves. And I dont think I'll do a veil because it's just not me. I love the vintage look! So rock it!!!

I agree with everyone telling you to skip the gloves and the bolero. The dress is already quite embellished, and you don't want to take away from that.

I actually looked at all your pics and thought 'oh, vintage gloves would look cute with all that....' (as the glove pic didn't come up for me). I think all the accesories complete your look.  You don't have to wear the gloves all night or anything.  I get the look you're going for and think it'll all come together nicely.

LOVE the dress and LOVE the shoes... i think they will be fantastic! I think the bolero is fine if you're doing it for modesty purposes but the dress is so beautiful you really don't NEED it there at all. I think everything together might be a little too much. I'd maybe lose the hat on the birdcage veil... i feel like maybe a more simple birdcage veil and no gloves? It'd kinda help if we could see it all together though :)

But who was it that said that if you want to look perfect stop just before you leave the house and take one accessory off??

Thanks everyone for all the input and relies!

@engdom:- our theme throughout is tropical vintage.:)

What I gather from a lot of the replies so far is that it's all too much together. So I will stay away from wearing everything at once. The blue shoes seem okay with most people even though some don't like the ones I have picked out :)... and most people aren't digging on the gloves.

This is my new plan... walking down the aisle and for the ceremony I am thinking of dress, birdcage veil, blue shoes, and wrist length gloves. I was thinking the gloves might be essential for hiding a hankie for if I start crying which knowing me will probably be likely! :O

After the ceremony I will keep this for some pictures but halfway through pictures take off the gloves and veil.

The bolero I will have only for the reception (maybe some pictures without the veil if it ends up looking good) but mainly just incase I get cold in the AC and don't want to cover the dress up too much..Oh and since I will only be getting it to wear for a super short amount of time I was thinking of getting a plain short sleeved bolero rather than the one I have in the picture. Any thoughts on if I should get satin or organza? The gloves are a sheer material and the shirt of the dress is tulle so I was thinking organza might look nicer... thought satin would probably be warmer and the sash on the dress is satin so that would match too maybe... or no bolero at all??

What do you all think? Still too much???

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR COMMENTS AND HELP!! :) :) :)

i would ixnay the bolero- i think it doesn't go with the rest of the look too well.  i think the gloves would be super cute, but COULD get a bit costumey.  would have to see the whole look together i think.

I just think still with a tea length dress, gloves still seem a bit much, even wrist length. I like the dress, veil and shoes. Everything else just seems way too busy, then to top it off what jewelry are you wearing?

@MissGreen: What I have for jewlery is a single strand necklace of alternating pearls and little crystal beads probably something like 16 inch length so the shortest length without being a choker... I wish I had a picture! The earrings are matching little dangle earrings (maybe just about 1/2 in length) though I was thinking of doing a half up half down hairstyle so no one will probably end up really seeing the earrings maybe..

i voted that the gloves would be too much.  but then i saw that you said they would be wrist gloves and i actually think that would work well.  i do think however that you should just do a normal birdcage veil to keep things simpler.  don't have that hat part on the veil.  other than that, i think everything woudl look very cohesive.

I love it all together. I know gloves aren't worn much at the moment (which is possibly why so many people voted them as 'too much') but I think they give you something unique and fit in to the 1950s feel so well.

As for hiding a hankie... our celebrant carried tissues for us. We had to stop several times for tissue breaks so I'm glad she did!

And if you're after a plain bolero, I'd go with something sheer like organza or chiffon. The softness would complement the sheer skirt of your dress without overwhelming the more detailed bodice.

Love birdcage veils, I have one too!  I like the lacey wrist length gloves too, especially because there is lace on your dress!  Do what you like though!  You know what you like and what looks good on you!

Thanks for the comments and advice everyone!

@snuggly: I agree with you about the gloves being an old fashioned thing... I think too that is probably the reason why it's getting voted down so highly. Thanks also for your input on bolero! I think I will go with plain organza one but as many suggested I will not wear all the accessories at once. :)

@kaymc: Thanks for the encouragement! I LOVE birdcage veils as well :) Though, it's a pain to see through it! I will probably only where it through the ceremony and some pictures and take it off for good.

I appreciate all the help and advice :)

    @franciebrady1:

Here is my take on things (FWIW, I love posts like this, I am totally into fashion):

    • No on the shoes. I agree with the other posters that the material makes them look clunky and too casual for a wedding. They look like something you would wear for a bridal shower.
    • I would choose a high satin peep toe in pale blue if you want a vintage look. (Pics below)
    • I love the veil.
    • Instead of a bolero (which I think, even if you ONLY wear for the reception) is still "too much" going on, what about a knit cardigan in cashmere in an "ice-cream" color like aqua or pale pink? This would be *Very* retro and would keep you warm. I love that idea.

I say...wear them all if you like them all!

LOVE the dress!  Shoes too!  I've been coveting those Hey Lady shoes, but sadly they are not in my budget.  If you have them, go ahead and rock them!  They'd probably be more comfortable since they're marketed as dancing shoes :)  As for the birdcage veil with tiny cocktail hat, plus short gloves--I'm going for that look too!  It's very 50s retro, which is the look you were going for, right? I like the bolero, but the others may be right in that you may want to consider a plain sheer one...or go with a cropped cardigan.  Super cute!

I'm doing pretty much the same thing: birdcage veil w/tiny hat (on a headband for my short hair), shortie gloves, cat-eye glasses.  For the reception:  I'm changing into a short white dress, throwing on a Tiffany blue pashmina shawl, and replica ruby slippers!  (Keeping the veil)  Too much?  Maybe.  But it's the look I want and I'm going for it!

Oh, I forgot to add:  if you're concerned about being able to see through the veil, consider a shorter version like this one from Etsy seller thetreasuredpetal:

@kitchenkoala: perhaps you are right in that it might be too much but it turns out maybe you're right and that is the look im going for! :D I def am going for a retro 50's look and maybe that does make it a little too much by today's standards.... I do appreciate all the comments, suggestions, and inputs I've been getting though! And I think i will def take the advice of not wearing everything at once. I think I am going to go with a sheer simple bolero.. I do LOVE the birdcage veils with the tiny little hat though. Also, that is a super cute one you linked me to too! I hope you post some pictures of your wedding. I'd love to see your look :) Oh and as for the Hey Lady shoes, I LOVE them!!! I was actually super lucky enough to find them on ebay, the exact pair I wanted most in the world, in my exact size. Crazy coincidence! So I got them for over 60% off the retail price and no one else even bid on them because I don't think anyone knew what they were... :) You should keep your eye out for others. I've seen a lot of ladies on WB in the past say they also were planning on getting those shoes... maybe they will sell them after their wedding and it will work out to be before your wedding... :)

@aandmklover:  Is your SIL's hair color natural?  If not does she have it done?  It's just the shade I want.  Feel free to PM me.

Sorry for the thread de-rail, but for the record, I like the entire outfit, don't think you need to leave any of it out, really.  If you are going for a vintage look, look at photos of brides or women going out for the evening back then.  Or another good source is looking at the illustrations on vintage patterns.  Having the gloves plus bolero plus birdcage (or generally in those cases a hat with veiling) was not at all uncommon.

bolero is cute, but not 100% sure about adding it to the combo.  You could wear it during the reception since you probably wouldn't wear a veil at that point.

Not sure on the gloves-maybe not during the ceremony but why not put them on for a few of the pictures?

I like the birdcage veil.  But I do think the shoes are too heavy looking for that dress.

The dress is absolutely gorgeous, btw.  I saw that dress in the bridal shop and commented on how beautiful it is.

The bolero in the picture doesn't go with the dress... I can see wanting one in case you get cold though, so I would lose the lace on it or go with one that goes with the sash.

I think you're going to look beautiful no matter what you choose.
