@allegrovivo:  I say ask your bridesmaids what they would rather wear! They are the ones who are wearing the dress so they sould be the ones to ask! Hope you find dresses that you and your bridesmaids love!

I would consider the weather, if its going to be relatively cold the they might consider wearing the longer dress unless they don’t mind being cold.

I just recently got engaged so my wedding is still in the planning process

@allegrovivo:  Yay for being a date twin! I am having my BMs wear knee length dresses. My venue is somewhat vintage (looks like it was built in the early 1900’s) but the wedding has taken on a more romantic than vintage feel. I have a fit and flare dress.

Have you considered talking with your BMs to see what they would prefer like another pp has mentioned?

Are you having a casual or formal wedding?  Although long dresses can go both ways, most say long dresses give the wedding a more formal feel.  Also, long dresses are a good idea for fall/winter weddings where it’s cold out.

As someone who’s worn both as a bridesmaid and now as a bride, I prefer short dresses.  I think they’re more fun and easier to dance in.  I remember catching the bottom of my long dress often on my chair, etc.  As a bride, I like the contrast between the long wedding gown and short bm dresses the best.

But since your bridesmaids are the ones who will be wearing them, I second asking your bridesmaids which they prefer!

I can see it either way – if you’re flexible, I’d poll your BM to see what they prefer.

@allegrovivo:  Yay!!! We currently live about an hour north of Orlando, but FI is applying for a job in that area right now. We are down there sooo often, even before wedding planning 🙂 Good luck on the potential new job!!!

If you don’t mind I definitely think you should let the bridesmaids choose.  Or maybe just not think about when you go shopping and try on both lengths until you find one you all love.  My BMs are having knee length dresses for a few reasons; one of them is over 6 feet tall and long dresses just make her look taller, short dresses are more practical for running around doing stuff, it will (hopefully!) be quite warm weather and like @arabesque:  I love the contrast between a floor-length bridal gown and the shorter BM dresses.  Good luck with your search!

I prefer short dresses. I think that it’s nice for your BMs because they might actually wear it again. I have a closet full of floor length BM dresses that I will NEVER wear again. I’ve never seen a long dress “shortened” that doesn’t lay funny. However, it’s your day, so if you’re in love with long formal styles then go for it. I mean, I don’t begrudge any of my friends who chose long, and I don’t think your friends would begrudge you. It’s just a bonus when you spend a few hundred dollars on a dress thinking “I actually might get to give this dress more than one spin!” But honestly, I don’t think any bridesmaid EXPECTS that to be the case.. It’s just something to consider if you’re on the fence. <3

I’m looking at a convertible dress for my girls (Bari Jay 205 in black) i’m having a very formal sat evening wedding and I love the look of long dresses but we’re having an hour and a half cocktail hr, 5hr reception, then an hr afterparty so I figured once the girls get hot(it will be may) they hcan remove the bottom
