I would go long. You can still give them a more casual feel with fit or fabric. (i.e. stay away from satin ball gowns)
Long dresses will be warmer for sure. Since your wedding will be in the woods, use an appropriate fabric/style for the dresses and they will certainly go along nicely.
Does anyone have any suggestions for brands that sell casual long bridesmaid dresses?
@Mermaid1082: Yeah I was actually thinking tights might be nice too!
I really like those dresses! And yeah, go with long cuz it will be warmer, and the shawls are a cute idea.
For brands, try looking at companies that don't explicitly sell "bridesmaid" dresses, even something like Kohls or Target.

I am having my wedding in February (one of the coldest months of the year here) in the middle of the woods at a rustic old sugar shack. Our wedding is pretty casual. Our dress code is "smart casual" which is basically "as long as you wear something nicer than jeans and a t-shirt, you're fine".
I was originally going to have my bridesmaids wear short dresses, but then I saw this photo in a Martha Stewart Weddings magazine and I thought it looked really nice (especially with the warm looking shawls!):
I'd also assume that long dresses would be warmer, right?
Would long bridesmaid dresses be too formal for our casual, rustic wedding?
