I dunno… maybe if I had a friend that I was close enough with to joke that way with… but at the same time if I was that close with someone I would want to leave them with a beautiful, thoughtful card, so I can’t really see ever giving it out.

I would actually use it for a couple that has been together “forever” as a joke since it has been a long time coming, and everyone was thinking it would never happen.

I think it’s incredibly tacky and rude.

@summerbvt: We got a lot of “shotgun wedding” jokes when we first told our wedding date because we were engaged 9 months to the day.  No actual baby so far though 😛

I think if you think it’s appropriate for the couple, go for it. If not, don’t.

I’d have sent it to my BFF and her hubby if it had been around nine years ago. He started making payments on a (gorgeous) ring after they’d been dating less then four months. He proposed two months later. They would have gotten a kick out of it, especially since my god-daughter wasn’t born until almost eight years later.

@niromale9949:  I’m one of those people who have been together “forever” and I might find it offensive since, to me, a shotgun wedding is usually a quick wedding due to a bun in the oven. It’s my understanding the joke comes from the girl’s father getting his shot gun and forcing the boy to marry the girl.

Now if the girl is actually pregnant and they’re happy about it then it’s pretty cute.
