No, they don't need to match at all!!! As far as the formality, I think it should be as formal as your wedding is.
It doesn't have to match. If you like the dresses the way they are, and it suits the formality of your wedding, you should leave them the same. = )
They don't necessarily need to match at all. I am looking for some that coordinate somewhat in style, but not everyone does that and it's just as pretty of a combo if you don't. :)
The BM's dress can be any style you want ;-)

My dress is strapless, but I found BM dresses that are not strapless - they are v-neck with lacy type straps. Should I be going for strapless since that's what my dress is? In general, how much should the BM dress match yours in terms of style, structure and level of formality?
