FH did a pretty awesome job wrapping our card box in this beautiful sari fabric, but I'm not sure if we should add some sheer ribbon to it or not. Here's the box as-is (I know there are some stray threads that need to be trimmed).

The ribbon wouldn't necessarily have to go in that spot, either--just to give you an idea of what it would look like. The ribbon is the same shade as the silvery thread in the fabric (which you can see more clearly in the third picture) so it does, indeed, match. I'm just not sure if the box is pretty and decorative enough as-is, or if we should add the ribbon to it.

    What do you think, Hive?

I really like the ribbon, it creates a bit more of a "finished" look.  I say definitely go for it!  I also like your placement on the border of the lid.

@soonerpsych: It does kind of add something, I think. I just don't want it to be too much! :)

I think the box is beautiful without, and IHMO adding the ribbon would make it look more homemade, whereas now I would believe it was store bought. Kind of depends on the look you're going for. :)

I agree that the box looks beautiful without the ribbon.

@daydreamwanderer: On one hand, everything is DIY and we like to embrace that idea. At the same time, though, we do want it to look professionally done, which is why I'm torn! Good point.

I think if we'd been able to find a ribbon that was a little more sheer it would work better...but I don't want the color contrast to look wonky because the fabric looks coppery when photographed with flash.

The box is gorgeous as is and doesn't need the ribbon.

How would you attach it? I feel like a lot of fabric friendly glues would show through ribbon that sheer, which would lead to a less than pretty look. :/

@daydreamwanderer: We picked up some clear fabric glue, but that is a good point as well. I'll see what FH thinks--he's become the resident DIY guru lately!

I think the ribbon breaks up an otherwise busy pattern. I love the pattern, but the ribbon just sort of polishes off the whole look.

As for the glue, can you do a test on on some extra fabric, or the inside of the box where no one will see it? To at least see if the glue shows or not?

Is this for your soon wedding or your distant wedding? You can always let it sit and come back later if you want to add the ribbon (or something else).

The box looks great just as it is, but I do think the ribbon adds a little something to it!

@daydreamwanderer: This will be used for both; we're only having one wedding, but two receptions. :)

Peer pressure: DO THE RIBBON! (Begins chant) Ribbon! Ribbon! Ribbon!

Oh, I just wanted to be ridiculous. It's that time of night at work and I'm losing my mind. :D

I personally really like the ribbon, especially where you had it where the lid and box met.  I think it makes it look more finished.  The fabric is gorgeous, by the way.

i like the "idea" of the ribbon, just not sold on that particular piece? (does that make sense?)

dunno where you got the sari fabric, but often the sari stores have beading detail, you could use those as a border - i think it would look more elaborate than the simple ribbon....

Yeah, I'm not sold on the placement yet, either. We looked everywhere (we got the fabric at a local fabric place--there are no sari stores around here) and couldn't find any beads we liked, so it's either ribbon or nothing.

I think adding some ribbon (just a little) would make it look fab!

@neontl: Where should I add it? I'm not crazy about the placement in the photos...this is tough! Haha.
