I started working retail about 16 months ago. There is a position open that I feel I would do well in. I am hesitant to apply because:
- I won’t be able to have the 80 hours availability required after next Spring because I will be starting practicum (im in graduate school)
- I think others are better for the job because they have stronger leadership skills, more availability, longer history with the company, more time available in the future (i will have 2-2.5 years), and they know more about the position already.
What should I do?

@meghanjane: It can’t hurt to apply. If you apply and get an interview or progress, inquire about the time needed and what you could do with it on top of your busy upcoming schedule. Don’t down yourself, maybe those hiring might see qualities in you that would be good for the position. Let them make that decision, don’t sell yourself short. Better to apply and not get it, then not apply and wonder if you could have/would have and miss the opportunity. 🙂

@meghanjane: There’s no harm in applying, but I wouldn’t expect to make it passed the interview phase considering that you don’t have the required availability.
