My Fi and I are both very tall. For reference I am about 5’10 and he is 6’5. My photographer is a very petite female. I am worried that since we are so tall the photo’s will be taken at an unflattering upward angle. I have expressed concern to my photographer and she assured me it would not be a problem. She said she has a stool she would bring just incase she needed it. I can’t imagine her lugging a stool around all night. It is probably more practical that she use a stool for our first look. Have any other bee’s been in a similar situation? I would also appreciate a photographers perspective on this. please tell me should I be worried?

babykoala: If you have an expereinced photographer then I wouldn’t be worried. That is their job, they went to school for it and have trained for it, so I am sure they are more than capable to work in situtations like this. And the last thing you are going to worry about is her carrying around a stool, you are going to be so wraped up in excitement that day.
Have you done enagement photos with her? That would be a good way to see what angles you like and don’t like and see how she does.

She has probably shot her fair share of tall couples, so I wouldn’t worry too much unless she brings it up as an issue. I agree with PP that you should do an engagement session to get a feel for how she will shoot you, and that way you’ll have time to discuss what you’d like to do differently for the wedding (if anything). You could also ask to see one of her photo galleries from a wedding with a tall bride or groom.

I’m a 5’2″ photographer and I shoot tall couples all the time. Granted, I’m primarily a beach wedding photographer, so I have the luxury of dunes and varying heights in nature to get me higher than my couples. I do bring along a foldable stool that I use occasionally, but not always. Then again, I’m a natural shooter and so a lot of my work is capturing my couples interacting with each other (with my guidance) and so you’d be surprised how little the height matters. It’s more of a struggle when you have a REALLY tall groom and a TINY bride – because you can’t do much to make either of them taller or shorter.

babykoala: I would assume that most female photographers are shorter than a lot of the grooms. I haven’t heard of anyone complaining about this so I’d guess it’s not really an issue.

My photographer was quite a bit shorter than my husband and me. She just climbed all over stuff to get good pictures! I wouldn’t worry about it.
