How does the process of alterations work?
I found a dress I like, but would like to make alterations on the neckline and the tulle overlay of the gown. If I buy the dress from a local store, when the store orders the gown from the manufacturer, can they alter the dress as they are making it OR is the gown made as it’s originally designed and then the alterations are made by the local store? (The dress is Maggie Sottero Eden image is below)
The reason I ask is I’m wondering which would save me cost. I found the dress online for about 20% cheaper, but I know that if I buy online I would need to get alterations done after I receive the dress. If I buy from a local store and it’s the same case, I would rather just buy it online. BUT if they can save me alteration costs by specifying design changes when they order it from the manufacturer, it might be cheaper to buy from the local store.
Thanks for your help!

I believe it depends on the designerI I’m not sure if maggie customizes gowns. I know casablanca bridal does

If it’s the auhentic I would get it online and find a local seamstress to alter it!

I wouldn’t trust getting my dress online. Especially since measurements are different between dress makers and much different than normal sizing. Go to a boutique and they can alter it later.

Several dress shops told me that you cannot get any customizations on Maggie dresses. You’d have to get local alterations done. I’d shop around for a seamstress and also make sure the dress you’re buying online is authentic, so you’re not disappointed in differences with a replica.

Thanks for the feedback!
The online stores where I found the dress cheaper are both authorized retailers for the designers (RK Bridal and Bridal Closet).
I guess my best bet is to call around more local boutiques to see if anyone has this dress for cheaper.
