So, my DF and I took our engagement pictures on December 9th.
Near the end of our shoot, our photographer said we should get our pics in the new year. Ok, no problem; I can wait…
But it is now February 1st, and I haven’t heard from him (I haven’t contacted him either). I have just been creeping his facebook page for his business, where he posts photos of his other couples. There have been lots of posts, so clearly he is working; and I know he had a destination wedding to shoot earlier in January.
Should I email him and ask for a timeline, or some pics? Or wait for him to contact me when they are ready? I am just so excited to see how they came out. (Good I hope).
I just don’t want to come off as impatient or bridezilla-y since he is also our photographer for our wedding, and I want to maintain a good working relationship.
Any advice is appreciated.

I was worried about this too with our photographer, too! We had out engagement photos taken in the beginning of September and I got them back end of October – about 6 weeks I would say. I did contact her at about the 1 month mark to ask for a timeline.
As long as you aren’t demanding, I don’t think it will make you look like a bridezilla. Just a quick email to inquire as to when they will be finished – and say you are anxious to send out your save the dates or annoucements with those pics or something.

Is there any information in the contract about when to expect completed photos? My contract says to be completed within 8-10 weeks, but our Engagement pictures were done in about 4 weeks. Check your contract…if the timeline has passed I would contact him. If not, I would wait until it has.

Nothing wrong with sending a friendly email just checking in to see if you can get a timeframe. Engagement pics should not take that long to turn around.

Definitely check your contract.
Other than that – a friendly email that just says you’re checking in wouldn’t cross a line.

I sent him a quick email, and he said they should be ready in the next couple of weeks! Yay!!

If you ask in the manner you are asking here that you are excited to see the outcome could he send you some teasers if they aren’t ready yet and ask for an approximate timeline. Its just a question not bride zilla at all

that’s great you sent him a email! with all the other things to worry about, it’s nice to have a timeline when things will be done =)

I am a wedding photographer myself and I know how swamped you can be with work.
But, I always stick to my promises and I tend to set strict dates so the bridal couple knows what they can expect.
I would send a friendly email inquiring that you understand hes busy but asking whether he has any time frame in mind. I would personally reply such an email within seconds!
