@Marie2013:  I think if you can cut on other costs, get the dress you want.  You are going to be the one wearing it, and looking at the pictures years from now.  Also, since it is such a unique dress it will set the tone for the entire wedding.

I tried to cut corners by buying a dress at a sample sale, but I ended up regreting it. Now I am going to make sacrfices to make sure I have the dress I want. I felt guilty at first, but remember it is the most important dress you will ever wear.  Also since you are open to selling it you can make money back after.

I ended up spending almost twice what my original dress budget was because I talked myself out of the dress I wanted because it was expensive and bought TWO other dresses before just biting it and buying the one I wanted. I say, like PP, if you can cut some corners elsewhere, it is well worth the piece of mind to just get what will make you happy since it’s not incredibly unreasonable!

I fell in love with some really expensive dresses but couldn’t justify the cost and went with a $350 dress. But then it got ruined in alterations and I had to spend a LOT more on a new dress – Makes me think I should’ve just gone with something I loved from the start.

It’s up to you in the end – if you can find the money and make it work in your budget, all the power to you. But also remember that you’ll look absolutely radiant in whatever you choose to wear that day!
