Im trying to decide if i want to fly to New york for my dress. I live in Chicago and so far the places i have shopped has very little to chose from. One shop told me to just pick something out of a book then put down half without even trying it on. IS SHE CRAZY! Will it be worth me spending the extra money. What about the fittings?

Chicago is a major city and should carry almost every gown NY does. I can't imagine that you would have to travel.

They have a Vera Wang and Ultimate Bride carries all the major designers. Eva's and Belle Vie look like they carry a huge variety as well.

I really don't think you're going to find anything at Kleinfelds you can't find in Chicago (unless you want a pnina dress or something). If you do buy something from Kleinfelds you can always have it shipped back to Chicago and find your own seamstress.

If you were coming from a small city, I would say yes, go to NYC.  However, I would really doubt there is anything in NYC that there isn't in Chicago.

Have you asked if salons will order a dress in for you to try on for free?

I personally think it's not worth it even if you do have a bigger budget. I don't think you'll find the selection in NYC to be significantly better than in a city like Chicago.

I agree with everyone else, plus the money you would've spent on plane tickets would come out of your dress budget, no?

I'm in DC and there's tons of options here, for every budget.  I cannot imagine Chicago being any different.  Go to a different shop if the one you went to is giving you this crap.

If you have the money, go for it! :) My cousin is doing the same thing. She's flying out to Kleinfeld to look for her dream dress. It's going to be really costly for her, but she claims that it's a worthy expense because it's the only luxury she's asking for. You deserve to get what you want, so I say do it :)

have you considered Bridal and Formal in cincinnati? they are in the reading area on bridal row. They are biggest kleinfelds competitor, and rumor has it that they are going to have their own,  show. look at their website, they have oaver 4000 gowns. a huge list of designers and all price points,  also on the same street is cincinnati bride, and European bridal ( which is where my daughter got her dress which was also available at kleinfelds.)These stores are all within walking distance of each other not to mention other wedding type stores, surely you could find your dream dress. you could drive there and spend a couple of days, just on this one street! good luck

I live in NYC, and I didn't even go to Kleinfeld... I didn't even know about the TV show until I had already bought the dress. I already got married last month. But with all the talks about Kleinfeld on Weddingbee lately, I am wondering if I should make a trip just for the experience :-). I would take my husband with me too, since I couldn't take him last time, and make a date out of it!

Thanks ladys. Many of Chicago's Bridal stores carry alot of designers(mainly by way of a catalog). They do not have many to try on, which is difficult. If all else fails, To New York I Go!

You live in a big city that should carry all of the same things. Kleinfeld was okay- they aren't cheap by any means. You go for the experience which is fun and overwhelming at the same time lol
