I got a day of coordinator at a steal of $250.  I haven’t had my wedding yet, but the $250 is worth it to me just for piece of mind.

Are you organized and a planner?  I am and was able to do all the legwork myself.  Is it stressful and tiring – yes!  Was it worth it to me to save a couple of grand – yes!

At one point I was so stressed out that FI and I seriously considered hiring a wedding planner — we even spoke with one and set up a meeting with her.  We ended up mutually agreeing to cancel the meeting because of a blizzard, but that turned out to be a good thing.  FI and I broke our To-Do list down into chunks and just got through a piece each weekend.  Once we got the major stuff booked the rest was easier.  Now I’m glad I didn’t spend the money on the coordinator.

I didn’t vote, but I’ll tell you what I’m doing.  I am doing all of the planning and oganizing myself and I’m hiring a student event planner to come and help for the day; well actually about 4 hours for $80.  She will look after the music for the ceremony and then set up the tables for the reception and go and pick up the food for our dinner.  Granted we are having a small wedding 40 people.

I didn’t have a wedding planner and I don’t regret it. Don’t get me wrong – it was a lot of work to do myself and at times was somewhat stressful, but I enjoyed planning it and I felt accomplished after it was all said and done. I got so many compliments on how wonderful everything was and it felt good to not have to share the compliments with anyone else haha! I essentially planned two weddings because we got married and had a small reception on a Tuesday in Georgia, then had a large reception (300+ people) in Illinois the following Friday. It’s a lot of work but it is doable!

Several friends have had day of planners so that if people had questions they could go to the planner and not them — they all said it was a waste of money.

I’m having someone to help set up centerpieces, decorations, etc and to tell people when to walk down the aisle etc.  She is a family friend.

I would recommend a day of coordinator at the very least. The price varies greatly from area to area. But I would make sure we had it in our budget to have a DOC. There is just too much going on the day of for you to keep track of all your vendors.
