My phone contract is up now, and I’m having a realllllyyy hard time deciding which new phone to get.
First disclaimer: I will not buy an apple product. NO IPHONES.
At first I was making the tough decision between the HTC One and the Galaxy S4, but then I realized my carrier was advertising the prices $100 less than they should have… because those prices were for a new line.
Now I got sidetracked to the S3 or S4, because the s3 is only $100 which is affordable, compared to the S4 and One which are $200.
I just want opinions from people that have used both or love either. I want to know if I should splurge or if I should save my cash.
P.S. I currently have the great-great-grandfather… the original Galaxy S

Get the 4! It’s the newest, and going to work and be up-to-date for the longest. According to my FH, it also has sensors that the S3 doesn’t have, and that there isn’t even software available for yet.
On the other hand, FH has the S3 and I have the S4 and there isn’t too much of a difference. If money is really an issue, the S3 will certainly do the job.

I have the Galaxy S3 and I absolutely love it. However, if it was only a difference of $100 I would get the S4.

I just got the Galaxy S4 (had Galaxy S2)….love it !
I went to the cell phone kiosk at Costco, got the phone for $149 and they give you an accessory package (car charger, screen protectors, a case to store the stuff in) and waive the $36 activation fee. You don’t have to be a Costco member to use their cell phone kiosk.
They did have a special on the Galaxy S3 for $9.99. I don’t know if that offer is still going on though. (I was there July 1st)
I wanted the S4 really bad & knowing that I will have my new phone for 2 years I went with the, ‘latest & greatest’.
With work and the holiday I haven’t played around with the S4 that much. But I do love the big screen and bright colors. I haven’t figured out the Airview or Air Gesture (whatever it is called) or the Smart Scroll yet.

I got the s3 when it came out (paid a lot more than $100) and LOVE it. No issues at all. Best phone I’ve ever had. The camera on it is really nice too. In fact, I never use my digital cam anymore. I just use my phone. People can’t believe all my pictures and videos are cell phone ones. The s4 is out and I am not tempted at all because I love my phone so much. Plus, you can download the s4 updates on it.My phone looks brand new still.
Tip: Get a sticky screen protector film thing before you buy a case. Then try on cases while it’s on.

I just switched from iPhone to GS4… it is amazing! Granted, I never had the S3 to compare it to, but I loveee my S4.

@StillAMiss: What were the conditions of your purchase? What carrier do you have?
I’m pretty sure with Sprint to get those prices you need to activate a new line. I’m on a family members plan because they are an employee and get a discount, so I usually have to pay full price for phones.
It looks like everyone is leaning towards s4. The s3 is most likely more than capable, but I think I might not be able to pass up the latest and greatest technology 😛

@wouldyoukindlyy: I am with Sprint. Been with them for 13+ years. It was time for my 2 year upgrade/contract renewal.
The kiosk at Costco does offer the Galaxy S4 at a lower price than Sprint. They waive the $36 activation fee and give you the accessory kit that I mentioned before. (Not sure about family plan, employee discount etc…I only have 1 line)
If you have insurance with Sprint now you can keep it or you can purchase the Square Trade thru Costco -it is @$99 total, but it does not cover theft or loss. Insurance thru Sprint covers that along with spills etc… However Square Trade has a lower deductible ($25) & you can have up to 4 claims. I was told the insurance thru Sprint has $125 deductible and they don’t cover as many claims.
I did not purchase the Square Trade-but have 30 days to go back and do so. In the end the Square Trade is a savings. I currently pay $11 a month x 24 months = $264. I am really careful with my phone so I’m not too concerned about theft or loss. But with a $125 deductbile thru Sprint it hardly seems worth it to keep their insurance.
I did splurge and get a Otterbox Defender Series case. It’s a great investment. It has a built in screen protector and adds a lot of protection (IMO). -purchased off of eBay, @$30
Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

I have an S3, and I love it. I got it for Christmas. However, it was the first time I got a top-of-the line phone, and I was bummed when the S4 came out so soon! I think if you only plan on getting a new smart phone every two years, like I do, you should get the newest technology available, so you’ll be less likely to feel like your phone is so outdated in a year and a half.
I also have an otterbox case, I felt I needed it because I’m such a klutz lol and it didn’t do amazing in drop tests, and it’s great, I don’t think my screen has a single scratch and I don’t use a screen protector, I think it’s because the case makes the screen a bit recessed. But it’s a big phone and a big case makes it bigger, I can’t fit it into my front jeans pockets.
