I am getting married on 31st Dec this year so not long to go now!
Due to the time of year I thought it might be nice to have a burgundy red theme with the bunch of roses that I carry.
The more I think about it the more I also think having red lips on the day would also be really nice, although I have heard about it being an unwritten rule to avoid red lipstick for your wedding. Also, the fact that if I wear red lipstick, I will have to tone down my eyes which I don’t want to have to do. I want black liquid flicked eyeliner on the top lid and also false eyelashes. But could I pull off this look considering it will be a seasonal wedding? I might go for burgundy red nail polish too, but maybe French manicure, undecided and don’t have long…
Any advice would be helpful, I am a warm skinned brunette with green eyes by the way!

It’s hard to say wothout seeing what you look like, but I think red lipstick could be very glamorous! I’ve never heard that you shouldn’t wear it on your wedding day. Is that a vestige of the old the-bride-should-look-virginal thing? I would ignore that “rule,” wherever it comes from!

Red lipstick + black winged liner is a very classic look. Go for it!

I mean, I’d say go for it but if it’s not a look you think you’ll be comfortable with, then don’t.
If you’re looking for a true red that will stay on, get Sephora’s Creme Lip Stain No. 1, Always Red. They also have a few others that are more in the burgundy family. You’ll have to scrub it off at the end of the night but it will NOT smudge and it will NOT wear off.

I love red lipstick – but Ive often found that it makes my teeth look dingy in pictures. Maybe I am choosing the wrong shade of red… but I voted no for that reason.

I love red lips and black liner, it’s such a classic vintage look. The only reason I could see to avoid a bold lip is to avoid smudges, but if you get a long lasting color and have some handy for touch ups I don’t see why not.

It all depends on your coloring and whether you want to feature your lips. I have neither the coloring (I’m a fair brunette with blue eyes, red is too harsh on me) nor the lips (sigh, pathetic thin top lip) for red, so I wouldn’t do it, but plenty of other women look awesome and fabulous in a dramatic red. And it’s definitely the right time of year for it.

That sounds like a good lip stain, thank you for recommending, however not sure I have long enough to try and aquire that particular brand. All I am doing now is visiting a MAC counter next week so hoping they have something similar! Yes I do also worry about the lipstick bleeding into fine lines/smudging during kissing and eating. Hopefully the sales person at MAC can advise me on how to make it stay put all day!

@ibiza1987: there is a shade of red lipstick for everyone. make sure you choose the correct shade for yourself. also, get the smear-proof, stay-on lipstick. you don’t want to see your lipstick on all of your guests.
the only issue with dark lipstick like red for weddings is the photography. deep coloured lipstick will appear very dark, almost black in b&w photos.
i do love red lipsticks so i say go for it. it will look great with the liquid liner.

Stillme: not sure where that old wives tale comes from, probably because everyone always stresses that wedding makeup should be understated, nude and natural. But for this time of year, I think red would look apt. Perhaps it would not work as well for a summer wedding.
Vorpalette: Yes it is a lovely classic look so if I go for it then I should not regret it someday! What do you think I should do about eyeshadow with this look? Because I will need something else on my eyes, not just the flicked liner.
MLDoddie: I recently had my teeth whitened so hopefully red lipstick will look good.
Kit Kath: Yes I think I will have to use some sort of primer, liner and go for a matt shade as glosses smudge too easily!
Eglantine: I have a mid skin tone with green eyes, my lips are of medium thickness but quite big for my face as I have a really small face!

@mypinkshoes: Great picture, thanks for your help! The way the model has done her nude eyeshadow has also answered one of my earlier questions. I really feel like just being bold and going for it now! 🙂

YES! I usually don’t wear any color on my lips at all, but became obsessed with wearing red lipstick the day of, and am so glad I did because I loved it! Just remeber to reapply becaue I forogt & that is why it looks faded in the second to last pic.
Here are my red lips!

@ibiza1987: yes, definitely keep the eyeshadow neutral. you don’t want to compete with the lips. the eyeliner itself will balance your face with the dramatic lips. keep in mind that eyeshadows and blushes always get washed out in pictures so make sure you apply enough, just keep the colours neutral.
as for making your teeth look whiter, blue-based reds will make them look whiter.
i think the look is amazing. if my wedding colour wasn’t pink, i would have for sure had this look.
what does your dress look like? does it have a retro feel?

@AnnieAAA: Thank you for sharing, you look absolutely beautiful and the red lipstick is just perfect with your colouring! Love your shade of lipstick too, what is it called? I probably have slightly lighter skin than you though also have green eyes so hopefully it won’t look too heavy on me! 🙂
