Should I have ordered the petite size for Maggie Sottero Tracey dress?

ileana214:  Well did you like where the flare “hit you” or no?  I ordered my Maggie in petite, which does change the overall structure of the dress as far as where things “hit you” but it worked out in my case!  Also, I didn’t want to have to pay to hem up my dress!

ileana214:  I’m by no means an expert, but looking at your dress I’m thinking do you really want to screw with hemming up that beautiful lace overlay?!

I’m 5’2″ and wore 5.25″ heels and had my Maggie ordered in the 3″ less petite.  With the heels it was perfect!  But I would have worn whatever heels necessary for me to not have to hem it!

ileana214:  I’m 5’2″ and ordered a Maggie Sottero dress as well. I asked the consultant whether I should order the peite size, and she recommended that I order the regular length. She mentioned that the petite size is an extra cost, but it is designed for women around 5’4″, so she said you would have to get it altered anyways, you might as well save the money and just pay for the alterations.

My dress just came in and I tried it on. The shape of it fits me well and I will just need a few alterations on the bottom. I will have to double check where the flare hits, because I don’t want it to look like I just chopped off the bottom of the dress.

ETA: My dress has similar lace details on the hem. When I asked the seamstress about how it would work. She said that they would remove the bottom lace, shorten the dress and then reapply the lace detail.

What a gorgeous dress! I used to work as a seamstress, and it’s tough to hem the bottom of a lace dress like that without having the lace look out of place, so you may want to double check how they’ll deal with that.

You look gorgeous! I’m a petite and shirt waisted. I have found that there is a big difference in petite waist to hallow measurements, and with fit and flare, I would imagine the flare would normally be off even though you said yours was right on.  This depends on if you are short waisted, long waisted, etc. So, for me, I’d order the petite because they hit waist wise in the right spot.

mildlybookish:  That’s interesting, mine was NOT an extra cost.

mchitt329:  That’s interesting. I wonder if that is just for the store that I was in, or because I am in Canada? Weird.

mildlybookish:  LOL I like the idea of a “you’re in Canada” charge 😉

Based on the picture, I think you should order the petite.  Where the flare starts looks great when you’re standing on the pedestal, but at your normal height the flare will make you look stumpy.  I think getting the 3″ shorter petite will be perfect!

mchitt329:  It’s funny, but sometimes it seems pretty close to the truth!
