Open another account. We have several savings accounts - one for each financial goal. It makes it easier to figure out what you've saved for each item if the money is kept seperate.
@texasmeredith: That's how I feel, FI doesn't even believe in a savings account! I didn't know if it would look weird to my bank that I have multiple savings accounts. Thanks!
i have multiple savings accounts. just check with your bank to make sure there's no minimum balance fee or inactivity fee.
I have multiple savings accounts (one joint for our big immediate goals, one personal for my photography equipment goals). We also have a high interest CD savings account for longer term savings that we will need in about 2 years, and we have a few longer term investment accounts (plus our retirement savings). It's all structured by how soon we will need access to the money, since you get higher interest earnings for keeping the money in longer.
I agree with texasmeredith. We too have several savings accounts.
We have 3 savings accounts at one bank. Its not uncommon, so your bank won't think its weird.
Why doesn't your FI believe in savings accounts? Where does he think you should keep your savings?
@texasmeredith: he thinks he can do it all in his checking account. Since our savings doesn't offer interest, he doesn't see the point. He has yet to get a 401k going either, because he thinks he will make better financial decisions with his money if he directly looks into stocks.... we've had many discussions about money -_- He can save when he wants something, but I am better at saving overall.

Fi and I have been contributing to a savings account for our wedding. We have a google spreadsheet with our budget and where we're at. We happened to meet our final budget this month which was a relief, except for one thing. I couldn't put FI's wedding gift into the budget. It's expensive, but he's wanted it for our entire relationship (8 years) and he deserves it.
I want to start putting some money aside for it, but I don't want to put it into the wedding fund because now FI is going crazy about adding to the honeymoon to make it more awesome, and I don't want his gift money to disappear into that. Should I just open another savings account? The wedding account is in my name so I'd have two... is that normal? Is there a better place for me to store the money?
