If you want to do save the dates, you could always do e-save the dates and then people would still find out, and it won't cost anything, AND you could do it as soon as you get everyone's email address. Just a thought. :)
I would still send them. What if you just made your own postcards or something. Doesn't have to be TOO much, ya know? You really just want to let people know ahead of time. You COULD always go the "new age" route and do a cute little STD Email. Why not?! I know there's some people who that just wouldn't work for, but, for them, you could do the postcard thing.
I made my magnets.
I bought the magnets for the backing at Staples: <span style="color: #81a026; font-size: x-small;">Business Card Magnets, 100/Pack
I used these cards: <span style="color: #81a026; font-size: x-small;">Avery® Glossy InkJet Photo-Quality Business Cards, Clean Edge, 2" x 3 1/2"1/2"
I saved SSSOOOOOO much $$ on doing these myself. I did the layout in WORD of all things!! Here was my outcome...
I would still send them too, even if it was just an email. :)
i agree about sending them via email - oot guests can plan better that way.
I ordered my STD postcards from Vista Print and they came in rather quickly. I ended up only getting mine out 1 - 2 months before the invitations but I know they were still appreciated by my guests!
I agree I would still send them. We did ours last week on vistaprint. We did the postcards. They were really cheap and then I choose the 7 day shipping. Got them last night! :)
I think it depends on the number of OOT invites. If you have a fair number it might make sense. If there are only a few people, I think you can shoot them a quick "here is the date, place, and time" email.
We sent out postcard save the dates about 5 months before the wedding, maybe a little closer. I think it never hurts to give people the heads up. Email would obviously work too if that's the way you want to go.
Even a email would at least be better than not sending anything, we made the cards ourselves, had a picture of where we got engaged on the front. At least your oot guests can make plans. best of lick whatever you decide

At this point my wedding is only 5 months away, so we will probably be sending out invitations in 3 months. Due to some indecision on the wedding date, we waited to send out STDs but planned to because the majority of our guests are OOT and may need advance notice o save up money for traveling.
Now that it's getting closer to sending out the actual invitations, I'm wondering if it's still worth it to send them? I saw that Vistaprint is offering the magnets free right now, but it would take 1-2 weeks to ship. Since we're on a tight budget, this would be an easy expense to eliminate, but it originally seemed like a useful idea for our situation.
