Are you not in a position where you can help him with these financial issues? If you’re going to vow to spend the rest of your lives together and be a financial team and so forth, why not start now?

Obviously I don’t know you or your SO, but I would tell him that if it was absolutely necessary, we can wait on engagement but I’d encourage him not to put it off. My reasoning is that if you’re going to get married, he should really want to marry you, so proposing should be a high priority. Also, he should use this stressful financial time to demonstrate that he can be a good and responsible partner financially. Obviously he shouldn’t kill himself trying to uphold the engagement deadline, but he should do his absolute best to make the sacrifices necessary to make the engagement happen on time.

@newcitylights:  I’d leave it up to him especially since it sounds like he has the money.

Maybe you could propose to him! It would take the stress off of him for now…and he could propose back to you later, when he’s less stressed out. If you want to get engaged soon, you don’t have to wait for him to do it!
