Regardless of how late or on time you are running, things always feel longer when you don’t know what’s happening in my opinion… I’ve been to weddings where I always hear guests saying to each other “Do you think the cake will be soon?” or “Oh I just missed it, I was in the bathroom!”. We are going to add a schedule of events to the back page of our ceremony program so that guests can know what to expect. Our hope is that they will use it to pace themselves accordingly and be able to stay the whole evening.

Knowing a bit about the timing helps people make decisions about whether to have another drink, when to sneak off to the bathroom, when to wander, when to suck it up and dance to something before it all winds down, whether there’s anything else coming up they want to stay for (like the cake or sparkler exit)

We are hoping it will enable more guests stay for the whole thing comfortably.

I don’t think it’s necessary to have times unless guests are going from one location to another. If you are running late, it’s more obvious that it’s running late. I think most people expect cocktail hours to be about an hour long. Honestly, I’ve never been to a single wedding or high end event (e.g. corporate event) where everyone received a schedule of the day’s events unless it involved multiple locations or it was imperative that people are not late (e.g. a boat wedding where the boat has to depart).

@lovelyduckie:  can someone just make an announcement to the guests on the day so if times change it won’t matter.
