Should I use my sis as my photog?

@Macsgirl14:  I’d use her for e-pics but not your wedding. First, you’ll want her to be able to enjoy the day with you, not work. Second, a lot goes into being a wedding photographer then simply being able to take gorgeous pictures.

Noooo don’t do this!  You will want her to be able to enjoy the day, not work it!  I know it’s tempting to go for the deal, but I personally wouldn’t want my sister hiding behind a camera all day at my wedding — I’d want her enjoying the day with me.

@MrsWBS:  +1

I don’t think its a good idea either…..what if for some reason you were unhappy with them….. it just wouldn’t be good! Also if she is there taking pics its not the same and she wouldn’t be able to enjoy the day as much!

Above you state “My concern though is that she only shoots skinny models”

From what you are saying …..she is a professional photog but she doesn’t sound like she has done a lot of weddings if she shoots mostly skinny models. I would skip it if it were me and hire someone else…JMO

HELL NO!

e-pics sure go ahead.  But wedding? So you don’t want her in any family shots or just any shot in general.

Worst idea ever.

And the other thing — shooting models is way different than shooting a wedding.  With modeling, you can pose them and re-take a shot 50 times if you have to, to get it right.  A wedding — you get one chance to get it right.  You screw up and miss the first kiss, or the way you’re laughing with your new husband during the first dance, and you don’t get a second try.

E-pics though — go for it!

@Macsgirl14:  If its small and informal and you are ok with the chance that you might not like them then go for it. I personally still think its a bad idea. You could always have her do a set of e-pics and see how you like them and go from there……It just sounds like she shoots models. Has she done many weddings? If so are you happy with her wedding portfolio?

Nope, nope, nope. Don’t do it.

E-pics or just for fun pictures of the two of you is one thing but not for your wedding. Your photographer should be a hired professional that you have no loyalty or relationship with other than business. I do not believe in mixing friendships with business and taking photos at your wedding is serious business.

EDIT: Okay I JUST saw your update that it is a very small, simle wedding. In that case I might consider it depending on how small/simple it is. That would be the only exception.

Yeah why not.  It sounds like you won’t really have a photographer if you don’t use her, so it’s a chance to get some photos and see your sis.

No.  Hire a professional wedding photographer and let your sister enjoy the day.

@Macsgirl14:  I’d go for it.  That way you get to have your sister there, and if you don’t like the pics you can always take new ones later.
