Ask for both! Can't have enough wine glasses! I wont lie though, I'm a wine drinker too and only have white wine glasses for both white and red. I would love to have red wine glasses!
I would do both, but since FI's not a huge drinker and you're concerned about storage space, maybe do 6 of each instead of 12. It's a lot easier to store 12 wine glasses than it is 24!!
....OR, if you want do eventually have complete sets when you are out of your appt., would your mother be willing to store some of them at her house? You could go along the lines of.... well, since you invited more people, I have more gifts but less space. Could you help me out??

I would go for both. We also have a teeny apartment and we just registered for the sets of 4 glasses.
Go for both... even though you might not use them a ton now or have to keep some stored away I think you will regret not having them later.
OK, both it is. Right now we're at 8 china place settings, so I did 8 and 8.
This might change to 12 and 12 ...
Go for red and white. You'll eventually have space and it's always good to have extra in case some break.
You could also register for some wine storage stuff. We registered for the Parker Spirits Cabinet, although we highly doubt we will get it. But you could register for some of those things you mount underneath cabinets that hold wine glasses by the stem.
We also registered for a wine storage tower from C&B since we have storage issues too (and apparently a patience issue too since we bought ourselves the wine tower already). Otherwise, I like the suggestion of doing 6 and 6 of red and white and then when you have more space you can buy more. I just went for goblets that are somewhat suitable for either red or white.

We registered for the C&B Nora red wine glasses.
I absolutely love them! But my mother has ... er ... added significantly to the guest list and strongly suggested that we register for more stuff.
FI doesn't drink, but I'm into wine. My issue is the storage space - we live in an apt with teeny tiny closets and cabinets.
So, red or red and white? What would you all do?
