I think if it were me, I'd reschedule. The new radar is showing that its going to be worse than originally thought, so I wouldn't chance it
@dorsay: I thought it was going to be well past VA by the weekend?
@mightywombat: I think it's still going ot be really rainy and windy... as in not fun to be outside weather... :(
hah, thanks everyone! I think I knew we SHOULD cancel.. but didn't really want to...so looked for validation to cancel. le sigh. Any suggestions on how to celebrate your anniversary in DC, in the rain?
I would definitely reschedule. Even after the actual hurricane passes, there will still be plenty of storms to rain you out of your plans!
Dorsay, it isn't just going to rain in Williamsburg this weekend, it's going to get HIT by Irene. Don't go! That entire area is evacuating. Trust me, I was going to college in Williamsburg when Hurricane Isabel went through (the college is going through the same evacuation procedures now as we did back then). There likely will be no power for miles for many days after the hurricane hits, which means no A/C in the August heat, and long lines at Wal-Mart for food and ice (that was the only place open for miles and miles that had generator power and was selling food). We had no power in Williamsburg for 10 days after Isabel. I can't even imagine going down there for a vacation this weekend - and forget about getting on the rollercoasters at Busch Gardens, no way they will be running. Good to see that you've decided to reschedule! And, I hope you'll be able to stay safe in DC, even that area is supposed to experience flooding and high winds; I'd anticipate you'll be lucky if you have power throughout the weekend.
If I were you guys, I'd be making a reservation for a nice B&B somewhere out in the Appalachians for this weekend to celebrate your anniversary!
We are in the exact same boat (so to speak!). We are supposed to be leaving Sunday to NYC but apparently that won't be happening. Our layover is supposed to be in Mineappolis but we are not sure if we want to fly that far and wait it out or what. Or if we just get a refund and fly somewhere else. Sigh. I was so looking forward to NYC.
Oh dorsay that totally sucks, I'm sorry for the bad timing with the weather. Honestly I think a night in with a fire and some wine and nice dinner, maybe a movie would be awesome. But I'm a bit of a homebody haha.
@dorsay: I would suggest another place but I don't know where you live.
Go someplace else definitely. Further inland to some B&B/resort/spa. Call and ask if anyone has last minute deals.

Our two year anniversary trip is this weekend, we planned to go to Williamsburg, VA since it's a short easy drive from DC. However, Hurricane Irene is threatening to crash our party. Williamsburg just isn't that fun in hurricane weather, and since we both love roller coasters we were thinking about going to Busch Gardens... also not fun in rain and wind. What would you do? It's still early enough to cancel...
