We just got a BFP today and told our parents (but no one else). We told them at 6 weeks last time, once we heard the heartbeat. Before that, we told them right away and then my MIL pressured us to tell more widely, and I MC’d at 9 weeks. So THAT wasn’t happening again. Other than parents, we waited til 12 weeks to tell anyone. But I say if you’re going to tell your parents before the magical 12 week marker anyway, might as well tell them now and if something goes wrong w/ the pregnancy, just let them be part of that process, too.

Jamergurl921:  Couples sometimes hold back on sharing the news over fear of a miscarriage. The reality is that most couples would tell their parents if they miscarried anyhow, so the rationale may be flawed. If you would not want to tell them about a miscarriage, then don’t tell them you are pregnant until after the first trimester.  If this is a good time, then tell them.

Jamergurl921:  its really up to you. DH and I are waiting until I am at least 12 weeks to tell the family bc I fear miscarriage.

Jamergurl921:  If it were me I would tell them. I just found out I’m pregnant last Saturday and the only reason we are waiting until Christmas to tell our parents is so we can see their reaction in person. If you have the chance to tell them in person, do it!

Just an FYI: the way doctors calculate pregnancy is from your last period, not from conception. So this means they tack on an extra 2 weeks in the beginning, basically (so at conception, you’re already “2 weeks pregnant”). So right now you’d be 3 weeks pregnant, and at christmas you’ll be 7 weeks, according to the way they calculate it.

Congrats and enjoy telling the parents!

Exactly 8 weeks from your LMP. So since you just found out that’s probably around late October, so 8 weeks from then would be late December.

Jamergurl921:  yup 8 weeks from your LMP. I know, it’s totally confusing… But kind of nice in a way because now you’re 2 weeks farther along than you thought! 🙂
