I always go to my stylist with my hair washed and styled.  I don’t see her for long  periods of time. She needs to see me and remember how my hair is styled, layered…etc..before she gets into cutting it.   I’m able to show her exactly what I want before she starts washing and cutting it.

I’ve never gone to a hair dresser who didn’t wash my hair pre-cut!

Equine_Breeder:  I get a wash, cut and style all the time. My mom has really short hair and often skips the washing part. The stylist I usually see will usually not cut my hair wet though. Its really thick and wavy. Everyone I’ve ever seen pretty much washes my hair, drys it, straightens it, and then cuts it.

If you want to save on costs you can wash your hair right before and that way they won’t have to wash it. Just make sure you tell them you don’t want a wash because you just did it and if its needs to be re-wet, they can just spray some water on it.

If you don’t care about cost, just tell them to wash it. Don’t let them cut your hair dry.

I do not wash my hair before a haircut, nor do I get it washed at the haircut since I get dry cuts as my hair is naturally curly.

Sometimes I wash it, sometimes I don’t.  It depends on if I am going to going straight to the salon or have plans earlier in the day. If I do wash it, I tell the shampoo person to  only wash once. Price of the shampoo is included in a cut everywhere I’ve ever gone, not including tip.

I don’t, except for the times when my neighbour would run over and do it right after I had washed it so it was still wet.  I usually end up reacting to the different products, so it’s already 2x I’m washing my hair in a day, I don’t want to add in a 3rd.

When you say you are going in just for a cut, do you mean they don’t blow it out at all? I’ve never been to a salon where that wasn’t built into the price. A separate blow out or style appointment is about half the price of a cut. Do many places charge a la carte these days?

I always go to the salon with clean hair. If you just washed it yesterday and it’s not greasy it should be ok.Otherwsie I think it’s the considerate thing to wash it.

Just think about those poor people who would otherwise have to put their hands in your greasy hair.

You would never go to the dentist without brushing your teeth.

I am getting my hair cut tomorrow at 10 am, because I washed my hair this morning though, I will not have to wash it again before the appointment. FWIW I wash my hair 4-5 times per week.

My last hair dresser specifically likes that I don’t wash my hair the day of the cut. Hair isn’t supposed to washed multiple times a day – not even every day. So I have never washed my hair right before. I’ve also never gotten a dry cut though.
