I made my own wedding cake! The bottom layer was devil’s food cake with caramel custard filling and the top layer was vanilla with peaches and cream filling.

Those both look great! How long before the wedding did you guys make them?

My mom made ours and I loved it – gorgeous AND delicious!! My favorite type of cake (really the only one I like), so I had to have her make our wedding cake 😉 She has been making epic birthday cakes for me and my sister our entire lives, so although she was nervous about it, I knew she could pull it off!

@moonbride:  I think my mum made the cake layers about a week in advance, froze them, iced it two days before, refrigerated it, transported it to the fridge at the venue the day before (day of rehearsal)

@loving_life:  Thanks! We’re having a fairly rustic wedding so I was thinking of doing the same thing – not to mention my fiance is a chef… 🙂

@moonbride:  haha, we had a rustic wedding and DH is a chef as well, but he wasn’t involved with the cake 🙂 I know my mum was very stressed about the idea of doing it (was afraid it wouldn’t be perfect enough), but ended up not having an issue, since she was able to do it a bit in advance, not day before/day of.

@SnowBunny420:  I really like your cake, I love the flower arrangement!

I made my sisters cake. It was my first wedding cake so I was really nervous!!

@moonbride:  I baked, filled, iced, and decorated the cake the night before the wedding. I had about 3 hours sleep until the wedding was over. I’ve never really done a tiered cake before (and didn’t really practice) but all those cake shows made them seem so easy.

@ReeRee06:  wow, that’s gorgeous!

@amethystJCM:  Thanks! Your cake is really cute! I love the birds, they fit the cake perfectly! And you’re flavours sound really, really yummy!! May I ask, did you have to put the cake in the fridge over night after you had filled it?

I know they’ve become trendy but I knew since being a little girl that I wanted my Mum’s cupcakes

Wow ladies, these cakes are impressive!!!  DH’s old coworker/friend made ours.  Top layer was carrot cake, middle was white with a buttercream frosting, and bottom is fake.  We also had sheet cakes that were passed to guests.
