My father passed away, so I always knew it’d be my mom walking me down the aisle.. I only have this back shot of us.

My dad was invited to the wedding and in the audience, but I would never dream of letting anyone but my mom do it.

@_Adelaide_:  If you are that close with your mom, I say have your mom walk you down. I think my step-dad is going to walk me down. Was going to have my mom (she had her mom walk her, as her dad had passed away), but my step-dad has been in my life for 20+ years (I am 34).

@_Adelaide_:  That’s good, I misunderstood reading it the first time. I have tossed around the idea of having my daughters walk me down, but haven’t made up my mind. My feeling that it in no way has to be a male escorting the bride, maybe because 20+ years ago my gma walked my mom – I think it is very cool.

For any brides considering asking your moms to walk you down the aisle, I can only say that as an MOB, this would mean the world to me.  For reasons I don’t understand, my daughter has elected to walk alone, although I am the one who raised her, has supported her to the age of 25 and is singlehandedly paying for a formal wedding for 150+ (and working multiple jobs to do it.)  I respect her choice, but if she decided to ask me I would be incredibly happy about it.

@_Adelaide_:  My mom walked me down. 🙂 she had more right to give me away than anyone else. Sure it takes a village to raise a child… But my mom never gave up on me in my worst.

@_Adelaide_:  I’ll be escorted by my grandma on one side and my mother on the other.  They’ve always been there for me and there are no male figures in my life that I love or respect except FI’s family.  Now I’m trying to figure out if they’ll have mini bouquets (might be hard to hold on to), corsages (which I feel are kinda prom like) or a boutonniere pinned to their dresses…

@_Adelaide_:  My step-father and grandpa walked me down the aisle, so I didn’t vote

I would share a picture but it wouldn’t help you visualize your idea! I think it is beautiful that you want your mother to do the honors!

I am not a fan of this picture of me, but my Mom looks beautiful! My dad passed a few years ago, and I was always closer to my mom anyway, so she was the perfect person to walk me down the aisle. I figured she’d been with me every step of the way so far, she deserved and I wanted her to take those “last” steps with me!!

My mother was very, VERY sexist raising me- so when I mentioned I might want my grandfather or step-dad to walk me down the isle, I didn’t expect her to say “NO! I am the one who raised you, I will walk you!” LOL and all I could respond with was “but you’re not a man” LOL She was irate 🙂 I will be walking MYSELF down the isle, thank you!
