Gels you can get painted on like nail polish, but it’s too hard to bite through. That’s how I quit biting my nails! It’s basically like a layer of hard plastic on your own natural nails. That way, instead of fake nails, it’s just your own nails growing out without any extensions. Just a layer of plastic on top. It looks just like nail polish and lasts FOREVER.

I get gel or shellac polish. It makes my nails thicker, but it’s nice because they’re stronger and don’t chip. I’m not a biter but I am a peeler and I’m unable to do that with the gels/shellac.

I always do solid colors though, I don’t like French tips

This is a very awkward picture, but I was attempting to use the camera on my laptop, which I never do.. My nails are actually old-school acrylic, but I think that my nail tech does them so well. I keep them short so they aren’t so obviously “fake”, and she keeps them pretty “un-bulky” in my opinion..

**Edited to add that I can totally open soda tabs with them!!

MsCandyGirl:  omg your acrylics are great!  Nail biter here wanting non embarrassing nails on my wedding day and might use your pic as inspiration. Tired of those thick 80s looking acrylics.

MsCandyGirl:  Thats how I used to keep my acrylic nails, short and “thin” so they look and feel more natural.

Acrylic is definitely cheaper than gel fake nails. The shellac gel polish gives you the benefits of gel fake nails without the cost of maintaining them. Gel also lasts just a bit longer.

I had mine done Shellac before our engagement photos. I wanted them to look as natural as possible. The colour is “Mimosa’s for Mr. & Mrs.” Technically Shellac is your natural nail but the gel polish gives you a very similar look to an acryllic (smooth, doesn’t chip, shiny, etc.) without ruining the natural nail underneath 🙂
