Hi Bees! Anyone use Pilates as a wedding prep workout? Its pricey but I have heard that it does wonders… and if it works.. I am all for it! I need arm/back toning and just an overall slimdown. I do hot yoga and run, also, but I think I am at a plateau… anyone have pixs of their results to post?? Thanks!

I don’t have any pics, but I started pilates 3x a week about 6 weeks ago and HOLY COW do I notice a difference! Not only do I look more toned, but I feel about a million times stronger and better about myself. The first few times were pure agony, but now, I am really getting a lot out of each session. My abs look and feel so much better and I definitely am noticing changes in my arms, butt and thighs as well. Yes, the classes are expensive, but it’s totally worth it for me. I am not great at motivating myself when it comes to exercise, so going to the class and having other people around really, really helps me. It’s also great because I know I’m doing the exercises correctly. I’ve also noticed that I feel a lot better (not as out of breath/exhausted) when I run – probably because I’m getting noticeably stronger. And I’m losing weight, so all in all, it has been an awesome experience for me and I will definitely continue with it.

Oh, but make sure you go somewhere where they REALLY kick your butt. I had done pilates in the past and it was basically just like yoga with a little bit of an ab workout. The place I’m at now is crazy, in terms of difficulty and that’s probably the only reason I’m seeing the results that I am. Check out a few different studios and go with the one that’s the hardest!

Also in the Boston area- would love to know where you go!! My first session is this weekend – its one on one but I already told the lady that I need a serious ass kicking- hopefully she doesn’t go for the gentle approach- I want my moneys worth lol! i need to learn how to use the reformers a few times and make sure I am doing each move correctly before I venture out into the group class world. - Wedding: June 2014 - British Columbia
I started out with Pilates! I took it as a pre-training for Yoga classes from May until August. I am sad to ditch the class this fall as I make room for resistance training classes.
Things I’ve noticed: I have improved my posture. I am more aware of all the bones that help with stability. Pilates has actually improved my running as pilates focuses on breathing a lot.
My core muscles will still need strengthening, but my most favourite Pilates exercises are the ones with the small ball and long stretchy elastic bands. Sorry, I didn’t take any selfies of my work-outs! However, I can tell you that it’s helped me lose 8 pounds, in conjunction with running every week. I love the soreness I get after each class. Best abs workout! I always dreaded the classes with foam rollers, but there was this one class where the instructor showed us how to use the rollers to massage our backs and leg muscles. So good! (Do what you can if you are new to Pilates. It takes time to develop strong muscles)
I am looking forward to get back into Pilates after I finish my resistance training classes.

@MSbride2Bee: I didn’t do Pilates as wedding prep but I’m doing it now that I’m pregnant. I traded 3x/week with a trainer at the gym to pilates M/F and prenatal yoga on W. I’m 13.5 weeks today & haven’t gained any weight yet (I contribute that to continuing to stay active). I feel amazing after my pilates classes, so much better then I did when I was training at the gym. I can’t say enough great things about pilates.

@littleprettyliz: first session was amazing. About half way through I already knew I was hooked! It’s a tad pricey, so I can’t commit to more than once a week, but I have found a gym with mat classes, and I love hot yoga and jogging once a week, so I think the total package will be great. I need to mix things up, otherwise I get bored. As for the session, I loved getting the stretch, but could totally feel the toning- under the arms, triceps, across my back… if I keep this up, I will have a perfect ‘strapless dress’ upper body!
