@Katie Koekblik:  Honestly it’s so difficult to answer that because it really depends on what stone, what grade stone, what type of metal, etc..

Mine’s appraised at about 6000.  0.7 carat center stone (H color), ~1 carat total weight, platinum.  Usually you can get rings for less than the appraisal value, though.  (if you really want bang for your buck, get a vintage ring – you can get them for way less than the appraisal value!)

Are you looking to spend 6-6.5K? Instead of just looking at what others want, what do YOU want?

If I had 6.5K max budget, I’d go on James Allen and spend $1025 on this: http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/platinum-six-prong-knife-edged-solitaire-engagement-ring-handmade-item-2426

and use the remaining $5400 on this http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.01-carat-i-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-228034

🙂

My ring was $5500 but appraised for $9000. We got it after thanksgiving with 30% plus an all cash discount.

My stats are: .8 center carat total weight of the ring  ring 1.52 carat. Center stone is a E Vvs1 Oval cut. I wear a 4.5

@TaurianDoll:  You don’t have to get a plain band with that. There are plenty of options for bands with side stones or pave bands.

Mine was a little more than that, but it has pave stones on the side and is a good quality 1.09 karat diamond (although my FI did get the diamond in the estate jewelry section so it was cheaper).
