beetobe2016:  So pretty! I love the second dress but have no idea who the designer is.

I too love lace sleeve dresses, but we’re having a winter wedding so can afford to have thicker/longer/heavier materials.

So far I’ve found that lace sleeves are really in fashion at the moment; have a look at Pronovias, Maggie Sottero, Mori Lee. They’re the ones I keep looking at, but I’m in the UK so selection is slightly smaller in my small town 🙂

I knew what I wanted. Tea length, retro feel with lace sleeves. I couldn’t find ANYTHING in any bridal shop that was either tea length or not a strapless dress.

So I ended up just getting a dress custom made. It’s not done yet, but most of it was during my last fitting and I’m so happy with it. I (like you) have difficult proporations (I’m 5’2″, and have E/GG sized bust but am not a large girl otherwise) so finding a dress to fit me is a nightmare sometimes. It either fits the bust and is large elsewhere or fits everywhere else but can’t fit my bust. It’s annoying.

I highly suggest if you know what you want, to find a reputable dress maker (mine specified in custom wedding gowns) and just sit down and talk with them. I met with a few but the one I selected asked me questions and sketched while we talked. I liked that.

When I first started looking at dresses I thought this one was very pretty.  However, it doesn’t have a flowy bottom.

I realllly wanted to try dresses with sleeves….the three shops I’ve been to have had NONE! Cap sleeves, yes….but all strapless and halter otherwise. I love strapless but really had my heart set on at least TRYING some on!

ccording to my dressmaker adding sleeves is one of the easiest changes to make. I bought this dress twice http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lindy-Bop-Ophelia-1950s-Wedding/dp/B00E62D2X0 and my dressmaker used the skirt material from one to make 1/2 sleeves for the other

also dress shops here often have loose sleeves they can pin onto dresses so you can see how it would look with sleeves added.

Here is mine.  It was surprisingly very hard to find a trumpet/mermaid silhouette with 3/4 sleeves. It was also surprising that I found this at David’s!   My dress has not come in yet and I am definitely much curvier than the model (which looks better IMO).  My skin is also more medium olive tones so the lace on the illusion sleeves will definitely stand out more.  I was going for a less poofy Kate Middleton/Grace Kelly look- classic and romantic without being matronly.  I think this one nails that perfectly!

I drool over this wedding shop on etsy. https://www.etsy.com/shop/Leanimal

If you can’t find a dress exactly the way you want it or someone to add sleeves, check her out. She sells top pieces that are all lace and works like a jacket that buttons in the back. It can come on and off during the wedding if need be. This works out if you find a dress body you like but it doesn’t have the sleeves/lace you want. It’s also pretty reasonable as far as price.

I’m doing it to get the lace look I want. I’ve noticed that dresses with lace tend to cost WAY more than “plain” dresses so I feel like this is a cost cutting alternative. Plus I don’t really care for amazing quality tulle and silk or whatever else they use, just want good lace.
