After looking at countless gorgeous wedding pics for inspiration, my head is in the clouds and I need to be brought back to reality lol. I’d love to see your real-life simple/inexpensive/plain venues and how you dolled them up for your day. How much did you spend on the rental and decor?

@futurearmybee: This is my venue. We are having the ceremony and reception here. $425 for the whole day. It even has a kitchen and backyard.

This is our location, it’s 900 for the whole day, we are going to get married in the rose garden and then have the reception indoors and on the verandah. My parents got married here 35 years ago!

Our ceremony lcoation is a historical home, $200 to rent from 8 am to 11 pm. The rental fee includes chairs. Ceremony will be on the lawn in front of the home, cocktail hour will be inside the home. The home is HUGE [much larger than it looks] and boasts 2 parlors, 4 bathrooms, 4 fireplaces, 3 balconies and TONS of antique furniture.
If you look to the right of the house, you’ll see a brick building, that would be where we’re having our reception location. The closest place for a reception would have been an hour drive and I just couldnt do that to my guests when there was a perfectly good building within a very close walking distance. It costs $375 to rent for the day before and of, all day. It does need alot of decorations so we will be paying quite a bit for uplighting, wall/door draping, ceiling draping, twinkle lights and chandeliers. But it’s so worth it for the price we paid. The rental includes chairs & tables for 300 [if needed], restrooms, kitchen/bar area, patio area, heat & a/c, and coat storage.

I have not even come close to booking our venue, but you all give me hope that there’s actually affordable options that are still beautiful! So thank you!
(Commenting to follow, on the off-chance that someone has an idea for a Maryland/Virginia venue)

@futurearmybee: We got married at a school and it was pretty budget friendly since it’s not a traditional wedding venue (only 12 weddings in the schools 79 year history).
Our venue rental fee was only $650 for the whole day/night. We used the same court yard for our ceremony and reception. We had to rent chairs and do lantern lighting, but in total everything came to about $1,200….so $1,850 for the venue and rentals. I think that was very budget friendly considering most venues in my area wanted at least $3,500-$7,000 just for the location.

Our venue is a recreational center/golf course in the middle of the woods in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. We’re paying $800 (just to rent the space) and we get $400 of that back (cleaning deposit).
Driving up to it:
The inside entrance has a HUGE chandelier made of antlers 🙂
The ceremony space. The wood pillars go all the way up to a cathedral ceiling
The reception space. Yes, those are antler lights hanging above. The large window overlooks a lake 🙂
The bar area, also has an antler chandelier and a canoe hanging over the bar:
If you can’t tell, we LOVE the outdoors and we’re really excited we found this place in our hometown!! 🙂 We’re also spending about $1500 on decor (for both ceremony and reception space) and linen/chair cover rentals but that’s mostly cuz I’m a flower slut lol.

We are using an indoor atrium at the Crowne Plaza. The rental fee for an afternoon wedding (11-4) is $250 and the food and beverage minimum is $1000. Linens, centerpieces, flatware, tables and chairs are all included. Plus, they set up and clean up. And it’s gorgeous!

@msfreemis: How did you find your venue? It’s gorgeous! Is there a min/max number of guests? We are looking for an indoor-outdoor feel and are on a budget as well!

@brokeninnj: same here. My venue was $9k, but it does include lodging for 20 guests, chair + table rentals, and use Friday morning – Sun afternoon.
The next budget venue I found was $6k, but no lodging and twice the driving time. Sads.

Stock images provided by the park and Google, but that was our venue. 🙂 $1475 total for gazebo, hall and sound system for 8 hours, but got $500 back from cleaning deposit, so the whole thing was $975 for the day.
