We decided to go the non traditional route.
Our colour scheme is green and white with a touch of silver - so imagine all the pink as green.
I cant wait to see it in person. We'll have four different flavours for the tubes, 25 of each. They are, chocolate with chocolate ganache, lemon and poppy seed, carrot and banana and hazelnut coffee.
The top tier will be chocolate ganache as my fiance and I are both chocolate people. 
I am also going non-(American)-traditional. This is a croquembouche which is the traditional french wedding cake. I don't like cake, so when my mother suggested this I jumped on it! Wayyyy better than having icky cake that I wouldn't eat anyway!
oh wow, that looks awesome. I'll google croquembouche so I can see what it's made out of.

Here were our mini-cakes that were served to guests, but we did have a traditional large (fake) cake.
Our's is a sugar pie, so it's pretty unexciting :P I plan on decorating the "cake" table with photos of past weddings in our families, to dress it up a bit.

We went the traditional route and had layers of chocolate, vanilla buttercream and carrot cake. It was yummy!
We went very non traditional with our cake. We had a cake made out of cheese.
for the actual desserts thought we had various mini desserts and berries

I dont have one uploaded from the front cause I haaaaaaaaated the topper!! I told the bakery I didnt want their topper, but there it was, and removing it would have left a big circle on the top so I had to leave it there
Here's mine. It was shadow cake (alternating layers of vanilla and chocolate cake) in each tier, but the fillings were chocolate buttercream, peanut butter buttercream and mocha buttercream. It was delicious and our guests loved it.
Heres ours...layers of vanilla and chocolate cake with chocolate pastry filling and buttercream icing. Guests said it was the best wedding cake they have ever had....it was absolutely delicious!
We hate cake too. Ours will look something like this with individual strawberry fruit tarts.

Here is my choice (I think). My cousin Rachel did this one. But after seeing some of the cakes on this site over the past few months, I have seen several other designs I like also.

Be sure your baker can do what you want to avoid disappointment. Mine said she could do it but obviously couldn't
Wow! OP's cake is an absolute stunner, totally outside of what I would have even thought of!
I'm more of a super-simple/traditional cake type of bride. I love the NYE cake upthread, very pretty!
I think I'll go with plain or off white, probably no colors except maybe silver, round profile, smooth icing with some details of some sort. Who knows!
This was our cake. It was a brown mountain caramel cake with caramel frosting. SO yummy!

We're contemplating the cake at the moment....definitely something along these lines though:
I had this vision in my head of what I wanted our cake to look like... so I drew it out and gave it to my cake lady and she created it! It was simple and traditional and I loved it!

We switched out the fake flowers for real ones in our primary colors (pink, orange, yellow) and went for white buttercream icing instead of the off-white in the original. Overall we were happy with it, and it tasted amaaaazing.
