Here's my dream cake! I go to meet with our baker early next month, and I hope he can do it in all buttercream since he doesn't use fondant! Idk what type of icing it is though, but I do know the flowers will not be red roses. They will be different flowers in an aray of colors. I have a $500 cake budget from my FFIL, but I don't know if this will go over or not. And also I don't know if I will need four tiers for 135 people, but I love this cake!! What do you guys think?

@hltruax cake's gorgeous! I hv no idea if it'llbe sufficient for 135 guests..but so long as the rest of the tiers are no dummies,u can control how much each guest can get. Just a qn,won't butter icing melt?

@hltruax The cake will be waaay nicer with a bunch of flowers in different colors.  Good choice! My baker said that a 3 tier round cake should feed 100 easily (pretty decent size slices!) and square cakes feed even more...so 4 tiers should be PLENTY! Buttercream tends to cost less than fondant, but ya, my friend who had a buttercream cake kept it in the fridge until the 1/2 hour before they were going to do the cutting.  $500 might be reasonable for a 3 tier cake and real flowers...discuss with your florist - fresh flowers all the way around each tier can really add up fast!

I think I want a slighty different design pattern on my cake, but I love the gold monogram detail. It goes great with our color palette of brown and champagne.

Alot of the weddings I have been to around my area have all had buttercream icing. We live in a small town, and don't have really modern bakers that use fondant. They have always left theirs out at the receptions (as in it was displayed when you got there). But, now I'm freaking out about the cake because what if it does melt? Anyone have a buttercream wedding cake displayed and it melted???

@hltruax - unless your cake is sitting outside in the sun on a hot day, you will probably be fine! In general cakes are delivered pretty close to the start of the reception (mine was delivered at 5pm and our reception started at 7pm). Your baker should be able to give you guidance regarding how long you should keep your cake out, but again, if it's not sitting outside/in the sun, you should be fine!

@hltruax, I think the cake you posted has been iced with buttercream - I can't be sure, but I know its not fondant. I think a 3-tier cake is sufficiant enough for your number of guests. My coordinator suggested a 3-tier cake for my wedding with 250 guests - but we'll also be having other dessert/sweets and not everyone eats cake.

Another idea is if you like the look of 4 or 5+ tiered cakes, you could have the bottem layers be dummy sheets, with only 2 or so actual layers of cake. That way you aren't orerding more than you need and you still get your dream cake!

@hltruax, buttercream can and will melt if left out too long. If you really want a buttercream cake, you should probably cut it at the beginning of the reception because you won't be able to have it on display too long.

@FutureMrsMartin- I LOVE that cake! It's so beautiful & simple but so classy!! I might just add it to my own inspiration board!! :)

The first of mine, the cherry blossom cake, I like but I would prefer if the branches weren't so thick and I don't really like the glass in between the tiers and probably wouldn't have sooo many tiers in the first place. Probably keep it closer to 3. I like cherry blossoms bc the SO & I loveeee Washington DC and have every intention of leaving Florida behind and moving there when we get married/

The second of mine is my favorite!! I love the crystals, I think it is very simple but a very classy and bedazzled look :) And our initial at the top in more crystals would be fabulousss!!

This has been my dream cake ever since I first saw it.. I keep looking at other pictures and comparing them to this one, and they never measure up! So I guess it's a keeper :) I'll be having it without the fondant ribbon layer - just the flower layers.

Bri Bri-- I attached a pic from the baker I am using.  I remembered seeing a cherry blossom pic on there.  Beautiful.

The second pic is my cake inspiration.  I wanted it to be classy but have a bit of a beach feel since we will be at the beach.
