We registered for Gordon Ramsay by Royal Doulton. We're upgrading from our Dollarama plates ;)

@bakerella: lol i didn't know what dollarama was... i was picturing plates with dolls on them... like barbie or something??? then i googled bc i had to see that and realized it was a dollar store. awareness fail hahaha
@CorgiTales: Sorry! Obscure Canadian reference! LOL! Dollarama is AWESOME! Seriously, one of my favourite stores ever. Maybe similar to Dollar Tree that the Amercian Bees talk about? Anywho, we have square white plates from there that are lovely, but honestly, we should likely have "grown up" plates, etc. LOL!
@bakerella: the ones you registered for are really pretty! unfortunately one of FI's criteria is that they have some color on them..... he's very pick for a man :)
I use fiesta in Blue, teal, heather, plum & pink! The green was the only pic i could save. Macys normal price for this is $48 but most of the time they go on sale for less than 25

Our everyday china is Wedgwood Nantucket Basket but a friend of mine is registered for this Crate and Barrel dinnerware that you might like:
We registered for Noritake colorwave in blue. We currently have received and are using 6 place settings. I really love it!
This set also has matching serving pieces, salt, pepper shakers etc
@mishelleez: i love fiestaware (our current plates are a cheap knockoff haha)! FI said no... but maybe I can talk him into it.....
keep the designs coming girls!
@CorgiTales: I think they also come in blue and grey. Sorry I couldn't find a photo, but the blue is a lighter than robins egg type blue.
these are the plates we registered for! we asked for the set without the cups and saucers, but registered for them separately. i love how subtle the circles are on them. they're from crate and barrel.

We did Thomas for Rosenthal Tim Blue...not the best picture, but here's the link.

We registered for Vietri Bianco. I love it because it is simple but also a little different from what you see normally-- and there are lots of colored dishes to mix and match. It is a little more expensive than your limit, Corgi, but we registered for everything separately and lots of people bought us separate pieces.
We have these from Macys! We wanted something simple but modern.

We registered for Portmerion Botanic Garden.. Its patterned but classic-- I have always loved it while visiting people who have it because it lends itself to being a mis-matched vintage shabby chic while paired with other stonewear or while all together a beautiful everyday formal::
For everyday, I LOVE Corelle! It's LIGHT, it's EXTREMELY durable (seriously, we should have like 4 broken plates by now!), and they're easy to clean!
We have this set
I loved the square clean white look. We use them for company all the time too! (put them on black square chargers.... looks awesome!)

I should add, with something "plain, white, and square" like what @whfields: and i have... It's SO EASY to match serving pieces! That's one reason I use mine for company all the time. Any store, Target, Walmart, BB&B, etc... carry the "White" pieces. I have great finds from pitchers to platters to you name it... and they ALL match each other!
We registered for the Studio Dinnerware at Pottery Barn for our everyday dishes. We have a couple platters and bowls from that collection already and love them. Many of the reviews say they chip easily, but that hasn't been our experience so far! (We've definitely thrown them in the dishwasher multiple times)
Here are ours ! One of the last gifts my Mom picked out for me. Square Corelle. I dont need fancy china. My Daddy gifted me the ones my Mom was using for 20 years !
@KLP2010: Totally agree! I didn't think about matching it with a different colored charger...great idea! The dinnerware set I have is being discontinued at Macy's but I was able to find great serverware pieces just with a different company...but since it's still white and square, they all match still!
I wanted the simplest, plainest dishes I could find. We have these.

I love the look of food on a clean white plate, and I like that we can use any color tablecloth, placemats, napkins, etc. to make the table look more exciting.
(Except that 99.9% of the time, we're eating at the coffee table in front of the TV but whatevs)
Thanks all!! I think I found ones I really really love. They're Mikasa (wispy floral) but for some reason they're SUPER reasonably priced ($60 for FOUR place settings-- insane!). And they're classic with just a little something fun. Haven't showed FI yet... hopefully he is ok with them even though they're flowery!
Here are mine! They are the Tronada Noche pattern from Lenox. I LOVE them!

We already had solid white and solid black plates from our previous apartments, so it's great that I can still pull the oldies out in a pinch and have things still look tied together.
Ours are Martha Stewart "Hudson" I loveee them!

@marsbug: love those! I actually dont mind all-white plates but fi thinks they're boring... boys :)
Thanks! FH actually picked them out, I was pushing for the Sophie Coran ones but figured if he actually had an opinion I should go with that. And I still really like these ones as well.
Here are ours. It's the Dansk Fjord dinnerware, and we *love* it:

I didn't register for everyday plates because I get so bored so easily with things as simple as plates. I LOVE this set that I got from Ikea. It was inexpensive enough so I dont feel horrible when something breaks. I am completely obsessed with black plates too. Fits with the black and red theme I have in my kitchen.

Beekeeper
So me and the Mr (the Mr and me?) went to Macy's yesterday to register and we totally struck out. We desperately need dinnerware because I own 7 plates, and they're all chipped. At first I was thinking we should get some less formal china... something like Mikasa's sparkle circle.
The price is right at 50/place setting (my max is 60/place setting but i'd like to go cheaper than that if possible), but in person it really looked a little... bleh. Boring. We looked at some other china but it all looked so FORMAL (we are not fancy people) and most of it was really expensive anyways.
The reason I was looking at china vs. "normal" plates is because I'd really love to have matching serving pieces (at least a platter or two and a bowl, i dont care about a gravy boat or creamer) and you usually can't find those for normal dinnerware. Also, I really don't like the "earthenware" look (the plates that are black on the bottom and look like glazed pottery on top).
We've looked at every pattern available at macys, bed bath and beyond, and crate and barrel. So far I can't find anything I like. So girls... help me out. Show me your plates! (with a link please!)
