I saw the post on mismatched dresses that didn't work... so I want to see your inspiration pictures! I wasn't excited about the idea until I saw this picture:

those are adorable - - after looking at them again I lurve the first photo....
@jackie - I know, right? I half wanted to ask my girls to find those dresses, but then realized it would take away their fun of picking out unique dresses. *Sigh* this is where trusting them comes in!
@emshaw - I love the tone and pallette of the first one, and the modern edge of the second one.... you don't see too many modern examples, I'm really glad you posted that!
Two more I love:

@lilyfaith: That's why I saved the modern one! You don't see enough of the mod style mismatched dresses. I love the first picture in your second post, the colors are super sweet.
I'm a little nervous about what my girls are going to pick out. I pretty much just told them to pick something vintage inspired and whimsical and go with it... eGad!
I'm nervous too. My girls all have very different styles, and I'm a little worried they'll clash. But we're going on shopping trips together, so I'm hoping that will create a cohesive look.
My MOH is so excited to pick her dress. Her eyes lit up when I told her that I thought they should be able to pick something they'd wear again.
Aww, I just love these! I am usually NOT a fan of the mismatched dress look, but these are SO cute. The ladies did a great job!!
Also, I would KILL for the first dress in each of the first pictures in lilyfaith's two pictures posts!!! Beautiful.
I would personally love to own three of the four dresses in your third picture, lilyfaith, particularly the one farthest on the left! (Not the second one from the right that looks a bit too sack-like for my figure but great on skinny her). Also the middle dress is your first picture. I think mismatched can look great if it is done well.
Also... off topic, love the hair on the farthest right girl in the same pic (the braid then pinned up curls)!
that picture makes me sooo happy danadelphia! i'm doing floral mismatched dresses and it's fun to see pretty pictures of them!
I love this thread! So much great inspiration!
Here's a great mix of blue silk dresses:

Those florals are gorgeous! I never would have had the guts to mix patterns, but they really pulled it off.
Loving the inspiration, and having dress lust.
I really liked Christina Hendricks' wedding party, even though it won't float everyone's boat.
@jduck - I did, too! Also, love C. Hendrick's dress, but a lot of people hated it.
I don't know who Christina Hendricks is, but I think her bridal party looks super-cool and non-traditional.
@veganglam - she plays Joan on the AMC show Mad Men. I love her! Her whole wedding was a beautifully non-traditional affair in an intimate restaurant - or maybe it was just her reception, either way it was gorgeous.
These are my favourite inspiration pics..... I'm going to do something similar with my three sisters, then have the three little ones in white with a sash each to match one of the older ones.
jduck: i love that picture and inspiration... those ladies look so stylish.
all the pictures look so pretty... for my taste i dont like the matchy-matchy bd dress... but thats is me... i have been in weddings were all the bridesmaid have the same dress and they look gorgeous!!!
I never really considered mismatched dresses until I was a BM for FSIL - to her credit, she didn't say we had to have the same dress, just that it had to be from David's Bridal, tea length, in a certain shade of green, of the same material. But 5 of the 6 jumped right to one dress, so I felt like it'd look weird if I was the only one in a different dress - like people might think I was the MOH. Anyway, I hated that dress, and I was constantly comparing myself to the other BMs. I'll obviously never wear it again, and it was $115 plus the sash. I know DB is great for a lot of people, but for $115 you can get a super cute dress at Nordstrom or Anthro/J. Crew on sale. So I think it's totally worth it.
Matched BM dresses done right can look so classy, too, though! I just don't feel my girls have the means to pay for what I'd like, nor do I.
Another one that I love, because it's modern and romantic at the same time:

@ladyjenn: That's totally what my bridal party is going to look like! We're doing cocktail length DB dresses in watermelon. 2 of my girls have picked some of those dresses :o)
My FSIL had mis-matched bridesmaid dresses. Since I have no bridal party, I can't partake in the fun!
I will try to scrounge up a picture, but it looked really nice. We all did DB dresses in apple. We were supposed to choose from 2 different dresses. But some how ended up with all completely different dresses. It was pretty awesome, and looked great.
I love the idea of mismatched bridesmaids dress especially because you want your dresses to flatter your bridesmaids, and sometimes that means a different dress for each. But you can see where sometimes it works better than others.
Great post!
Lilly, the first one you showed is my favorite. I have been trying to find something similar for my girls. Anyone knows where I can find something like that?
i wanted to wait for the pro pics... but i couldn't wait! here's a pic from my wedding.
Need help with picking dresses. I actually LOVE mismatched. The ladies look so beautiful and happy.
I thought the girls would be all about it, especially after sending them a few of the above pictures. They just keep saying it is all up to me. The one thing I did get was that 2 stated a preference for long dresses, which surprised me.
How do I give simple perameters and have them look conncected somehow?
I was thinking just let them pick anything purple and long but not crayola purple.
@scout - what about giving them a color palette, and few stores to shop at? For instance Anthropologie and J.Crew sells looks that are cohesive to their respective stores. For long dresses you'd probably want to go for a bridal store, like Alfred Angelo or whatever.
What are some tips and key points to pulling this off?! I really would love this!
I love the look the girls wearing black TIGHTS too! =)
@CupCakeMeg:Pick one or two shades of colors. Find inspiration boards that you like, and stick with those colors.
There are lots of color boards here: http://www.betsywhite.com/flightsoffancy/
My inspiration boards:

I knew I wanted green dresses, and I found my sister's (MOH) dress first, and went on flights of fancy and found 2 boards that I liked that would work with my sister's dress. I've seen mis-matched shoes too and really like that look, but decided to stick with the same color shoes (similar to shell above) and earrings to tie everything together a bit more.
Download/print a color wheel - it will help you figure out what colors go with what, look at paint samples at the hardware store, and get an idea for the theme/feel that you want. Mine changed from cotton dresses to more formal after I bought my dress (do not buy BM dresses until after your dress is picked out). My feel has recently changed to more vintage/romantic feel, and I know the BM dresses aren't exactly that, but I don't really care. Figure out where you want to be flexible and where you won't budge (like the wrong shade of green I made a girl not wear - final sale so she couldn't return it). Print lots and lots of inspiration boards & show them to your girls. Have them email you links before they buy.
As far as black tights...sweet! I think they could rock that. Search google for pictures. What theme are you going with?
